It looks as though no car is safe from China's car copying industry - not even the U.S. military-derived Humvee. Guessing that there's an extensive market out there for urban assault vehicles, China's Dongfeng has released a new model it calls the 'Crazy Soldier,' which shares a striking resemblance to the original military truck created by AM General.
The Crazy Soldier was apparently developed over a period of four and half years, with engineers working closely with army officials in an effort to design a vehicle that perfectly suited the needs of the military. They then added a radio and CD player, slapped a price tag on it and released it onto the Chinese domestic market.
China's habit of cloning cars is getting to the point where Western automakers are starting to fight back. Yesterday, we reported that Mercedes-Benz is considering suing another Chinese automaker, Shuanghuan Auto, for copying its Smart minicar, and it's a bout time other manufacturers did the same.

Well actually they have been in production for about 5 or 6 years now which isn't that bad considering the Humvee has been in production for 22 years.
They are actually made under licence to the Humvee manufacturer AM General (not GM) and were originally built in China using US sourced parts. Not sure about the recent ones, they are probably made locally in China these days.
Toyota made its own copy called a Megacruiser of which there is one in Australia in Brisbane at Motorama Toyota.
We have a Humvee here in Sydney.

This guy in Silverdale is selling galvanised steel copycat Hummer bodies that fit on a GQ Patrol chassis.

Not that I was test-driving a Toyota and not that their V8 diesel was very noice.
