Dont try this at home kiddies--

Filed under: SUVs, Euro, Safety, Mercedes Benz
The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, known contemporarily as the G-Class, is an incredibly capable vehicle. More than able to shuttle the kids to soccer practice and chaperon celebrities to night clubs, as it has been relegated to do in modern times. Climbing walls like Spiderman, however, might be where its capabilities meet their limits. Might be.
Somewhere in Eastern Europe (from what we can gather), someone bet someone else €10,000 that he couldn't park his M-B G230 on the roof of a building. Sound ridiculous? Well, the guy hooked up the truck's winch to a bracket atop the building and, as you can see from the pictures, just about made it. The winch gave out when he tried to turn the vehicle right-side-up to park the thing and that's when things went south. Check out the snapshots in the gallery below to see how far south.

Winching point failure - looks like the bracket on top of the building gave way .

    That'll be a write off!

I wonder if we'd get away with doing something like that in Sydney ... say the MLC Centre, or the nice old Commonwealth Bank building, it could sort of set it off .. bit of city art!

    Who's going to volunteer?

well, good thing he used a winch, as he wouldn't have got nearly that close to the top with those bald tyres.

might'nt have stuffed his car though!!

It's a scene from a Defender (or 990/110) advert from the late Eighties/early Nineties (I think) where a red (?) 'Fender is winching itself up a near vertical reservoir wall, then gets to the top and drives away along the top of the dam.

its an old add, pommy I think advertising the go anywhere ability of the county/deefer some bloke rattling on from the drivers seat with cut shots to some other things and finally pans out to the thing pulling itself up the face of a dam.
