Thread: Paint Compatible with Two Pack

As can be seen in my signature, in addition to my landies I also have a Jag.

I have had this car for over 26 years and in that time it has only ever been on the road for about 5 of those. I would like to get it back on the road before I kark it, so after the 101 it is next in line.

So it is next year's project - it mainly needs the sills taken off and new reinforcing panels put in, other body work done and put back together - it has no problems mechanically except it manages to mark its territory better than any landie and hopefully I have fixed most of that.

Paint work is what will cost the most and be the hardest - I intend to have the car painted professionally in 2pack but to minimise costs I would like to do items like the inner bonnet, inside the boot and bootlid, door jams etc so that the spray painter just has to do the outside.

Now I am well aware of the safety issues with 2 pack and would use it out in some remote paddock but not in a suburban garage. So question number 1 - what other paint system is compatible with 2 pack eg old enamal, new enamal or even acrylic that I can use at home. I have painted many cars using acrylic but have no experience with other types of car paint.

Secondly, the outer shell is currently half stripped of paint and is forming some surface rust - so what sort of etch and primer can I put on it to stop the surface rust but is not going to cause issues when the painter does his work.

As you can see the cae has been sitting for a while and makes a good shelf to store things - the car is actually 110% complete and could be put back together in a few days and drivable.

Thanks for the information - looks like acrylic based primers will be OK - the outside shell that will be getting all the UV will be rubbed back to bare metal before painting with 2 pak so will be OK as well.

All I need is to get stuck into it.
