    African/Indian/Arabic music recommendations?

Anyone here into African or Indian or Arabic (modern) music?

Much to my children's horror and listening pain, I quite like African & Indian music

So far I have discovered African artists like:
    o Tinariwen
    o Amadou & Mariam
o Lucky Dube (am only 50:50 on this style)
    o Habib Koite

    and Indian (Bhangra) artists like:
    o Bally Sagoo
    o Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan
    o Nitin Sawhney
o Natacha Atlas (although this is perhaps arabic indian ...)

The only Arabic stuff I have found are chillout/groove mix albums.

Also love the Buddah Bar and Ministry of Sound types of compilations, if anyone has heard of these (UK based mix series).

Anyone here got any recommendations that fit in with the above type of artists? Perhaps the broad category is "World Music" with a beat.....

Guess I'll be surprised if I get any replies, but there's few guys (like BBC) who've spent some time out in various parts, so just thought I'd enquire.

    Thanks
    David

I'm with you 100% - and yes I get beaten into putting some crap commercial station on when I'd rather be listening to something interesting.

I'm actually staggered & disappointed at how narrow kids' tastes are - maybe it's a peer group thing, anyhow here ya go:

    Salif Keita
    Angelique Kidjo
    Prem Joshua & Manish Vyas
    Sheila Chandra
    Najmah
    Rachid Taha
    Ravi Shankar
    Telek (Papua New Guinea)
    Bhundu Boys

...and have a look at these too

Indian Lounge mp3s, Indian Lounge music downloads, Indian Lounge songs from eMusic.com

    Samsara Furniture and Homewares

    Cheers

Boy! That's about 10 times the responses I thought I'd get.

This is a very varied interest forum

Thanks for all those artists names. I will now go looking to see what I can find from your suggestions.
