Hey Ausfree, I just sailed from Pittwater up to Lake Macquarie a few weeks ago. First time I've done that and first time I've been to that neck of the woods. Took a boat to Wangi. You certainly live in a beautiful part of the world. Why would you want to holiday anywhere else, eh? Yeah, I know; variety is the spice of life, etc, but hey what a backyard??? Eh??!!

Whats funny Jason and Karen, is that, I've found over the years, the more people you talk to the more people and families you find who have problems like yours, or have strange medical problems or have the so called dysfunctional families. I fact, it's probably the norm. A perfect family is hard or almost impossible to find. An old school mate of mine who I'd always thought had grown up in the perfect loving country style family (kinda reminded me of the John Denver rocky mountain high style of family) turned out to be full of backstabbing and loathing for each other and fighting over family assets. I'm not saying in any way, shape or form that your family is like that; I guess I'm trying to say, hey even those families that appear "perfect" have problems and in fact may well be hiding their problems.
Hi again Jason and Karen, thanks for replying; forgot to say that earlier. From what I've read of the replies from both of you I reckon it's time you told these "knockers" in your family and close friends to get *&%$ ed". But I guess someone has already suggested that to you. Family and friends provide support, not ridicule! Thanks for your empathy regarding my son, but hey you're going through that and some, eh? When I read about Micayla, I thought "welcome to my world"; almost exactly the same problem, you'd think they were the same person. All the same problems. In fact, yesterday I bumped (accidentally brushed against) into my son twice and he had to strip off all his clothes, have a shower both times and put on new clothes (twice). AAARRRGGGHHHH! Also, let me tell you that whoever told you that Micayla's behaviour was a learned response needs a kick up the datehole. It's usually stems from anxiety. Obviously, Jason has more than enough pent up anxiety but Micayla's won't come from copying her father. So don't blame yourself Jason. Believe me, we're living with it right now. My son took Zoloft for a while (but unfortunately has stopped) and it did him and us the world of good when he was on it cos he became really relaxed, things just stopped worrying him as much and his mood changed from aggresive to passive and he became quite pleasant company. Heard of it?
Hi Ausfree, I was rereading this thread and saw your story again. Mate, my heart also goes out to you and your family. Your'e totally right in that some of us are healt lousy hands and others get all the aces. You and yours have had a real rough trot. My old man died in 2002 (70 y.o) from bowel cancer (had it for 8 years - stage 3) so I can only advise you to ignore any doctors recommendations to follow up 3or 5 years and do follow ups in half the time. take care

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Pirasea, without trying to hijack Banjo's thread, Bowel Cancer is a terrible ailment that can sneak up on you without noticing, I am now a strong advocate of anybody over 50 ( I'm 64) having a colonoscopy every five years or so. As I have already had cancer I will be having one more regularly. Sorry Banjo this is your thread.:)Quote:

One thing i have learned from telling everyone on here is it helps to talk & be honest about it...
I havent been out for a week so i think its time to go for a drive so i'm going to try after the realestate have been they showing some people threw as the house is for sale .sucks no one will buy it its falling down round our ears but it would be nice if an invester brought it wouldnt have to move then..looks like i'll go out the back for a smoke & a talk to the dog while they here..
karen recons i should go out & take pics of me & the car while out..HHHMMMMM.
PS freds on luvox it helped her so much but the doc wants her to stay on it for a little while longer just to be sure..
OH yah on my 21st birthday the oldman threw a party for me ,i never wanted one cause of the obvious but i went along all guests where friends of his & halfway threw the night he had that one to many & got violent well all he wanted to do was belt the crap out of me for the rest of the night then we could have a beer & be friends ,not one person helped bar karen.then he made me make a speach to thank everyone for coming..mide you he threw a plate full of food over the table where all the pressies where& knocked over the smelly candles over the ones used for mozzies well everything got burnt so i got bugger all left.he told everyone that if they get me something to get it engraved because i mite pawn it as i didnt work....
Karen & i where to get married not to long after that but that never happened cause karens parents where at the party & said if he is going to the wedding were not so we lost all out deposits & never got married...
Things are coming back from memery as i read fattys posts i have blocked so much out its not funny...

Banjo, again i don't want to hijack your thread but after reading right through everything that has happened I might tell you a bit about my experiences with my father, I hope this helps.
Being older than you I was a little tacker in the 1950's and Dad would go to the pub of a Saturday afternoon and come home drunk and of cause mum would have a go at him for being away so long and that of cause would set him off, in front of me (bearing in mind I was about 6 to 8 years old) he would bash the living daylights out of mum, she would be laying on the floor crying and he would sit on her and still bash her, I used to scream out "Stop it, Stop it", I would run out of the house and hide either up behind the garage (for hours at a time, wasn't game to come back inside) or go down to my grandmothers place who lived two doors away.
I had a younger brother who is 6 years younger than me, and after the usual Saturday afternoon thump up I could hear my brother cying in his cot. Mum was bashed up, she couldn't help and Dad was prowling around the house in a drunken stupor and I was hiding up behind the garage in my usual spot. My brother kept crying so I sneaked into the house picked him up (luckily Dad didn't see me) and ran down to Grandma's place. She would usually feed us and let us play down there until things calmed down at home.
Dad fought with all his neighbours, even built an eight foot high fence around the yard and put barbed wire on the top, it was like living in a state of constant seige. The bus stop was at the front gate and the schoolkids used to site on the fence waiting for their bus, doing no harm and he told tyhem to p**s off, so he placed barbed wire on the front fence so the kids couldn't sit on it.
Dad never laid a hand on me (I was/am an asthmatic and I think that helped) but I remember my older brother copping some beltings, as a matter of fact my father kicked my elder brother out of the house at the age of sixteen.they never reconciled until my elder brother was thirty.
Dad did get off the grog in the early 60's and he never touched mum after that but he still remained argumentative/bad tempered/every body else is a mongrel/ distant to us.
Dad died at the age of 97 in 2007 and he was estranged from the entire family,the last time I saw him was in 1998. Not one family member attended his funeral, mainly because he didn't contact us to say he was sick, I know my younger brother (My older brother died in 2003) and myself would have been by his bedside if he had of contacted us, but as he got older he became worse in his atitude and in the end we couldn't take anymore so we slowly stopped visiting him to be constantly abused.
I have constantly asked myself the Question, Why are people like that?
By the way we found out about the funeral in the paper the day after.:( In his Will, Dad left his entire estate to a woman he met after Mum died in 1994, the family got nothing.:mad:
Banjo, I hope my experiences help you, and I could also talk about the biggest setback in my life, the day my first wife died and the devastating effect on the family that had, or I can talk about the step-son doing drugs and the battle we had on that front ( didn't mention that one before) he is your age and we now joke about a permanent cell with his name on it at Cessnock Jail, its a revolving door with him doing drugs, stealing, dealing drugs, robbery you name it:mad:
Well i went out for the drive managed to stop at the cheap shop at cardiff spent some money that made fatty happy..cant you go into a shop & not spend any money ..not realy.its amazing what you can find in the base wherehouse.

Left there & went for a drive then ended up downat warnersbay stoped at my fav shop GASWELD was in there for awhile.. your gettin any money ..

Left there & drove around & up hillsborough RD to have a look at all the new shops found autobarn didnt stop there it was packed.
Cardiff is so bad with traffic while woolies is beeing built it was crowded all round down there..
Well thats my day out so far..i made it into 3 shops..was going to go into aldi but it was full with one checkout working, pass...:ehigh5: :banana::burnrubber:
passed disco & gave the wave didnt get one back so i gave him the reverse finger wave & he still didnt wave,,disco drivers must be above us series owners,,LOL

All in all sounds like you've had a pretty good day, and I'm certainly glad to hear about the progress you've been making. Its also been good to hear some of the background info, well, not good in terms of it happening in the first place, but good that you seem to be getting more comfortable letting some more details out of what must be a continually tough topic for you to recollect on.
With the house on the market, where are you going to go when it sells? (Sorry if that's already been mentioned, I haven't noticed if it has...)
