Would LOVE a Freelander 2 (they don't have any problems) but they are above our budget!!!Went to Cardiff Toyota this arvo and looked at a nice 2010 model Kia Cerato. Yep, I'm afraid that's it for me.
Still interested in LandRovers though and when I retire would love to spend my leisure time rebuilding and old Series Landy. With the "Guru" there to give advice I'm sure it would be an enjoyable project!!!
Getting involved with the Fort Scratchley Historical Society is also on my retirement agenda, as you know I served there in the 1960's. My patience has run out with the FL1!!!
However, with the transporting of my wife's elderly mother and also the grandkids ( you know the problems there,Jason, with the grandkids parents)we need a reliable every day driver and this car, unfortunatley, does not make the grade.
While I am still Pee'd off, to get this Freelander up and running would cost this:
1) Work on Auto Tranny .....up to $2,500.
2) T-Belt replacement.....up to $2,000.
3) Repair dent to rear left hand corner...up to $500.
So you can see, I am not a happy chappy. By the way we rented a Toyota Echo for a couple of days so as not to risk a major breakdown with the FL 1( it drives OK, just bumps badly going into 2nd gear) we were on our way over to Cardiff Toyota to look at cars this arvo and we passed the "Green Machine" going the other way!!While I'm at it, the little Toyota Echo had 151,000 k's on it and was a renter (and been abused) and it went like a rocket. When you stopped at traffic lights , you could not even hear the motor idling.
Jim if i had more experiance with modern motors i would offer to do all that for use , I'm sure i could proberbly do it all but with the workshop manual.
If it was mine i would just do it as i'd have to..
Are the shift solinoids internal or on the outside ??
I still cant fint that damn number i was looking for for use..

Will you be able to trade it if its not working right.??
& i think your right about the BELTS they should still have awhile to go before changing as the engine was rebuilt..& if it was fully rebuilt then they would of been changed then & it was only done wen it had 80K on the clock..

Thanks for your help Banjo. However, the deed is done, the Freelander is sold and I pick up the new (2010 model) Kia Cerato next Tuesday.I'm glad to be out of it.
Guesswhat, the sales rep is a LandRover buff, he owns a RangeRover and is rebuilding a Series 2a. Remember that house at the top of the hill at Minmi where the old LandRover was parked?? He lives there and he is the son of the famed "Minmi Magster"
Haven't lost interest in LandRovers though, when I recover a little bit financially I think I will be in a better position to rebuild an old classic myself, as the Freelander was a constant drag on my finances!!!!
Here is a photo of the "New' car, which I must admit I am a bit embarrassed to show on a LandRover site. Mrs Aus says she is going to miss the Freelander she loved that car!!I did too, but I don't want to go broke over a car!!!
