The suspension is cactus the rear shocks just flop around
So you probably can get second hand shocks from someone who is wrecking one, or doing a body lift. That is what we did. Hint, the RR classic suspension should fit, and a RRC can be very cheap. Know of complete registered ones going for only $500, so it should not cost you much for a suspension.
Need to replace the snorkel as i we can get booked for the whole in the gaurd GGGGGRRRRR..
I have seen homemade snorkels made from guttering down pipe, or made from exhaust Pipe. Should not be hard if you can borrow a pipe bender to do the bends. One that looked good to me was a strait section of stainless steel pipe, with down pipe plastic bends for the curves. If you use all down pipe it would be much cheaper than exhaust pipe/metal pipe. Or just make a vent to cover that hole where the snorkel once was—this vent does not even have to work, and a plumbers plastic grid with fly mesh underneath would probably do you to cover that hole and look as if it is deliberately done. Or get a sheet metal grid, cut it, and weld or pop rivet it on. Or just aluminium fly screen and a ruber on the sharp edges. No one restores a disco to look original.
Oh and if there is a council cleanup or someone renovating you can often find scrap bits of down pipe. And you can spray paint it. I saw a snorkel with a construction helmet for a cap—inlet to the snorkel, Looked very good. And we sometimes do see a helmet along the road—in an OP-Shop. If you have a local tip shop you may find things to suit.
Have not seen it but Darth Vader or a hells angle Helmet could also look good.
Oh, and I have seen snorkels with just an open rear facing pipe inlet. Some filters are cheaper than others—I think it is the square box one that is expensive, the air filter that we do have.
Seriously needs a bullbar to..
Old Range Rover bull bars may fit. We put one on a Defender we were selling before blowing its Diesel motor. But you may need to try before you buy as they are not a perfect fit—but usable. We do have 4 bull bars for sale for RR/D1, and I am sure you can find a good one locally. I would get a winch bar if possible.
We also have to find the whole floor carpet & get some new mats.
Council Clean up day will get you your mats, if not carpet peaces to glue on..
I guess it will be a work in progress. Lets just hope i can get this SMOKEY dash fixed before the rego runs out or it will have been a waste of money & time.... I do like the car tho.. It is the original 3.5 not a 3.9 Dunno where the last owner got that it had been changed from but it hasnt ..
I thought the 3.9 was standard in the disco, but may be wrong. So it may have been fitted with an earlier RRC motor if it is fitted with the 3:5. Do not know for sure, so do not quote me on this matter.
Needs a good tune up as the engine is a little smokey. New plugs maybe some leads & clean the throttle body out a bit & see what happens.
Do a compression test first if you have a gauge.
Ill have to put the alloys on it . They are smaller but have great tyres although they look CHEAP & TACKY
Sell them on Gumtree or AULRO if you can get the money for them. Steel wheels are better for off road use--Stronger. Many years ago Aquarangie sold his Range Rover mags to swap to steel rims, as these are stronger [on his Range Rover]. You may be able to change your good tyres to the steel rims, and then sell just the mag rims without tyres. Don’t know.
oh yeah the front drivers side tyre is slowly going down i noticed today as well. Oh & we need to replace both head lights as they are very rust on the inside..
Illegal but I would put HIDs in—they are much brighter, But could get you defected or fined. Chrome spray can on the reflectors and HID’s might work. Jaycar kit is $79.00 for high and low beam H4 HIDs—but we do have to find out why one of our HIDs from Jaycar is no longer working.
Cant think of anything else except that BLOODY dash smoking up bad.. Its driving me crazy its so hard to get under the dash in these things.. The green one ya just undo 2 big screws & pull the dash out.. The instrument cluster anyway..
Dash it!
GOOD LUCK and best wishes. Do hope you got it cheap. They can do up nice. Oh and the ride is great compared to a real Land Rover with leaf springs
