Well, Mrs Aus is going to have some work done on her jaw. She has suffered migraines for years and her GP has referred her to a Oral and Maxifacial Surgeon and what he has discovered through X-Rays is because she has put up with ill fitting dentures over the years her bottom jaw is out of alignment so she will have to have an operation to remove some teeth have some of her jaw bone removed to realign the jaw.
Then have two implants put into her bottom jaw to support a new and properly fitting set of dentures. We are not privately insured so the cost is well north of $6k. Luckily we keep money aside for emergencies so we can cover the costs.

Spoke to my tax agent and he said I would be entitled to a tax refund on any medical expenses over $2,500, for the financial year, so as I have also spent $1,500 on my teeth this year we would qualify.

The Surgeon reckons, because her jaw is out of alignment it could be causing the migraines. Lets hope he's right.

She has the operation at 10.am on Thrs June 19 and I will take several days off work.

Hi Jim, Sorry to hear the above You may or may not be aware that I had a very serious bone disease in my jaw, luckily it wasn't cancer. My dentist put me in touch with a private practice who quoted me $78k to put right my problems

I took a friend's advice and went to the "Dental University" who agreed to take me on at an estimated cost of $55k

To cut a very long and painful story short, I had to have all but seven teeth removed, 5 bone graft operations, $20k's worth of titanium bolted in, and new teeth made and fitted. Between start and finish was probably two and a half years, as you have to wait up to three months between bone grafts. I opted to be awake for most procedures as I could not afford to be knocked out It's been a long journey but the end result is worth it.

Your tax agent is correct I claimed back 20% of all monies paid, luckily for me I managed to split it over three tax years so I didn't lose out. If you pay tax and your wife doesn't you can make the claim on your tax return for her. Make sure you've paid enough in the year to get the full rebate

I'm not sure if two implants will support a full denture though I have six implants on my upper jaw to support twelve teeth, you might want to check that out.
If you have a dental university that is local or nearby to you I would certainly go and get a second opinion from one of their professors and possibly a quote, they are the experts and only use the finest materials.

Good luck Mrs Ausfree, you'll be fine

G'Day Jerry. By the sound of it, your dental work was much more extensive than what Mrs Aus is going to have done. Here is a piccy of what her bottom gum will look like. I have decided to call her "Fang" after the operation. Remember Phylis Diller (the American comedienne, with that terrible laugh) used to call her husband "Fang"

The two pins are magnetized to hold the dentures onto them, which will make it easier for her to chew her food.

well after a few bad days at college I decided to have a night away by myself for some R&R (which unfortunately involves study).
I decided to go to coffs and stay at park beach. It feels good to be back here even if not for long.
Fingers crossed the drive back to Armidale will not be as wet.
