Embarrassment

Hello All,

The journey to being fully sighted again has had its ignition key turned on and the accelerator pedal has been lighted tapped. I placed the order to have the new lenses made with the contact lens specialist this afternoon. They then place the order with the manufacturer. Once made the lenses get sent to the specialist and I pick them up from there.

A slight change of plans from my latest trip to Brisbane on the 30th of June when I was told that I could get the lenses posted out to me. The receptionist was adamant :twisted::twisted::twisted: this afternoon that I will have to travel to Brisbane to be fitted with them. So back to having 4 return trips to Brisbane.

Hey, at least the first leg will be the only one where I am not able to see properly! On the return leg I will be freaking out at being able to see all the texture and colour in the world again. Being able to see correctly is really very data busy.

Within the next 2-3 weeks I will receive a telephone call and be informed of my next appointment in Brisbane. :) I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for the big print you blokes. It makes it easier to read. :) It takes up a lot of space though. I can squint smaller print okay. As long I get up close to it.

Now what were my last words in the message about ordering the contact lenses this afternoon... "I will keep you all posted" :D :cool:

Hello John,

No I cannot wear glasses because my eyes are beyond the scope of how glass lenses can be ground.

What I have done is placed the order for the specialist Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses that are my only option. The contact lenses have to get manufactured.www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/rgps.htm

It may take a couple of weeks before I can see properly again. Plus a trip to Brisbane. I will then have to build up wearing them from about half an hour per day and steadily increase over weeks before I can wear them all day.

Here a description and some graphics about the type of lenses that are hopefully now on order About | Scleral Lens Education Society

It took over one week to get a written quote so I am a bit skeptical about the order being placed yesterday or today like I was told.

Fingers crossed anyway that some efficiency made it into a certain office in Brisbane today.


Ironically, if these lenses were available 15 years ago I would not to have had to leave my trade. My bank balance would look a damn side better than it is now and has been for more years than I care to remember. I got my tax return from a job yesterday and the on line payment summary showed 4 years of my working for the same mob. The total of those four years would not have come up to the amount I got in one year working in my trade - with a 9 day fortnight!
