I make the whole thing. I buy in hi carbon steel for knife making. Design the blade. Deside on what style of edge for that blade. Then cut the blank out. Then edge the blade. I heat treat in my forge then temper. Then desire what handle material I want to use with what pins. Then cut glue & pin the handles. Sand handles then hand sand them. Then final sharpen & polish. It's a long process per knife. I do quite a few different size & style of knives plus my carving knives which are hook knives.
Well today I finished off all the body mounts for Harry. Will start the steering column tomorrow. :D:D
Today was a sad day for us...
The funeral for PeterP was today. The service was attended by quiet a few generally and a few AULROians. For those who didn't know Peter he was in the military, Navy, and loved his 101. I have only seen Harry shed a tear 3 times, his father's funeral, our beloved dog "boof" death and today.
RIP Peter
Sorry to hear the sad news Carolyn. Funerals are never pleasant occasions particularly if you were closely involved with the person who died.:( A couple of months ago I attended a funeral of a close uncle, we were in the CMF together and he taught me a lot about life in the army. I now own his slouch hat which is a pleasant reminder of him.
It`s good to see a hand crafted blade from carbon steel
I am so over stainless steel blades never holding a edge
I even bought a old Moira knife from switzerland not too long ago like one i owned when i was a lot younger as all i could find in Oz were stainless steel blades:eek:
Funny thing is when i bought this Moira i found my original knife so now i have 2:angel:.
Do you hand make the sheath`s as well
Well done id like to see more of your knife`s . Oh i dont do FB:cool:
Just returned from a re-union at Fort Scratchley of past members of 113 Battery. It was good to catch up with a lot of people I served with all those years ago. Some people looked the same as I remember (although a little older) and some had changed completely. One member who served as an officer in the unit had changed so much, I didn't recognise him until somebody quietly told me who he was.
All in all a good night and Mrs Aus had a good time talking to the ladies.:D
Oops posted twice.
I don't do the sheaths yet. I'm learning leather work so I can & also kydex sheaths. I have a freind who does leather work so he makes sheaths when I'm asked for one with a knife.
I'll get some pics of my knives I've done. Making a couple for myself at the moment.
