Yeah Ian, I doubt any Anzac Day services would have been cancelled outright. It did rain down here, very heavy too, thunder woke me up at 2am this morning and it rain very heavily right through the morning.

I would imagine some of the smaller services would have been re-located, but that's all.

I would have hoped they moved the dawn services inside as we had about 3 hours of constant lightning with a lot of rain and a bit of wind.

Yeah what people would have to stand threw in a dawn service in any conditions , it would still be nothing like what our diggers went threw on that day on the beaches. I don't think anything would put a stop on any ANZAC service.

Still crook it's driving me crazy. Mite have to see a doctor. Will give it the weekend & see how I am Monday if still the same I'll go docs.

While we are on a bit of an Anzac Day theme, I have been looking at buying this book on Bofors. The book has just been released and being an old "bird shooter" in the CMF many years ago, I will probably buy it.

Booktopia - The Bofors Gun by Terry Gander, 9781783462025. Buy this book online.

I can get it from the UK for about $15 cheaper with free postage.

Foxtel have had some really good docos on about world war 1 & 2. Was watching all about the Germans & what they did in the holicost. They got weman & children striped naked put them in a field & shot them all dead. They called it the holicostof buttels. They showed actual photos & footage ..then went onto the gas chambers & the death trains & how the Germans made more importance on the death trains then they did of there trains with munitions. There is noway on this earth that any modern day person could know or feel what our soldiers went threw in those 2 wars. They had a doco on the rats of turbrook I didn't see that but I taped it. Had interviews with survivors. The Germans where very very cruel & I can't understand how one person (Hitler) could get a whole country to follow him. & as for the Jews I think that was just a hitler hate for Jews nothing else. Although in the end Hitler showed his true colours. COWARD. Took his own life rather then face anyone.

Yeah I like history specially Australian & war .

Did you know Hitler built the first stealth plane. Was made of timber & painted in some coating. Was undetectable.

Hey Jim these docos also had a lot on the big guns used in both wars & the developments made of them over the 2 great wars. Very interesting.

    That book looks good.

I used to have a book , I think it was brought out by the Newcastle herald. It was all about the history on Newcastle & the Lake Macquarie area. Right from the beginning . Also had the attacks on Newcastle & the fighter plane that went down in mayfield it landed on a house. I think it was called Times past. Was a large paper paper back ish book. Was a yellowish colour. I've been trying to find it for years so I can read it again. You would like it Jim. Had the flying boats out at rathmines .. Also the old couple we used to live next to at old house Betty & Sandy. They lived through the shelling of Newcastle Sandy was working in at compsteal at the time he used to tell me about when they would hear the air siron & have to get to cover , said they could hear the shell wiz past.

That book called "Times Past" was brought out in 2005 by Ron Morrison. I happen to have it, bought it a couple of months ago on E-Bay second hand from a guy in Adelaide. It is no longer in print. You are welcome to borrow it if you wish Jason, I know you will look after it. The book is in excellent condition.

As I am a great fan of local history I also have more recent books brought out by Greg and Sylvia Ray also from the Herald. They are..

    1) Recovered Memories...Newcastle and the Hunter.
    2) Newcastle the Missing Years.
    3)Destination Newcastle.
    4) Changing Places...Newcastle and the Hunter.

They are the same size as Times Past and choca full of old photo's.

I also have a very interesting old book called "Front Stalls or Back" by K.J. Cork and L.R. Tod brought out in 1993. It features the stories and photo's of all the old theatres in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
ALSO and a real treasure this one, "Youngy Then and Now" the story of Young Wallsend and Edgeworth brought out by Sue Sokoloff who was a teacher at Edgeworth Public School in 1991. Interesting stories and old photo's of the Edgeworth area.

Speaking of Hitler, history will always remember him as a criminal of the worst type. I have read up a lot on him and the thing is IF he have stopped short of invading Poland and persecuting the Jews he would have gone down in history as a great leader. Unfortunately, like all criminals he did not know when to stop and kept pushing and pushing untill the Western powers (England and France) said enough is enough after he invaded Poland.

Jim, have you ever considered an E-book? They're cheap as chips and books are about quarter of the cost of hard copies. It's not the same as holding a real book but one can afford four times as many e-reads.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I'm an old bloke Ian, (haven't you noticed) I like to hold a hard copy book, one of my habits is to read in bed before I go to sleep.
