Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip'''s old Land Rover goes up for auction - ABC News

"Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's old Land Rover goes up for auction

A Land Rover previously driven by Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip will go up for auction in February.

The vehicle, a Land Rover Series I (86"), has been listed for sale by Silverstone Auctions with a price guide of between £100,000 and £150,000 ($182,000 to $272,000).

"We are honoured to offer this incredible 1948 Land Rover S1, ordered on behalf of His Majesty King George VI," the auction house posted on Twitter.

"Used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, then the Duke of Edinburgh, at Balmoral before subsequently being used by the Queen Mother at Birkhall."

The vehicle was built in late 1953.

It was registered "NXN 1" in 1954 and supplied to Balmoral Castle for the use of the royal family.

They used it until 1966, when it was sold to the current owner in Ballater, Scotland, and registered as "LXC 894D".

The green Land Rover has an odometer reading of 53,582 miles (86,231 km) and is a manual transmission.

It will go up for sale at 1am AEDT on February 26. "

A bloke I know is restoring one of the locally built ceremonial LandRovers used by the Queen on the 1954 tour. Its provenance has been authenticated and was in storage on nearby farm for many years .

I'll bet it fetches more than that.

This came up on local Facebook market place just after the Queen died. I went and checked it out for a interstate bloke who is restoring the exact '54 it was unbolted from. To be sure it actually exists and that it was worth the asking price. I'm thinking no asking price would be too high really. 'knows what he's got' comes to mind.

Farmer selling it says he picked it up in 1983 and was going to bolt it to a ute for a shooting buggy , but thankfully never got round to it , been sitting right here going on 40 years.

Yes he did, good idea considering its the one that came off the vehicle he is restoring. coming to collect it in a few weeks.
Not impossible to make a replica for less money but its not quite the same as the real thing.

He sent me a photo of it early last year & was asking me what I thought it was worth. I have been helping him with what info I have with the Qld I found in 1998 & Keith restored. It now resides in the UK. I sent Patrick the drawings I had of the shield which I traced around the original one that Arther Goddard had. & Keith sent him the stickers he had left over from the 10 I had made for Keiths.

Fun Fact , I've driven past the farm dozens of times and looked at the piles of junk as you do & wondered if theres any Landy (or old Dodge) stuff in there. Even stopped and talked to old mate before when he was fencing . Now I know they never had LandRovers or Dodges on the farm and just a quirk of fate that old mate had the back of the Queens landy. He used to moonlight as a local real estate agent and sold the property at Savernake where the the Landy lived. After the sale the back part of the Landy was left there so Real Estate agent purloined it, to mount on a ute, but never did. Lucky or it probably would have been buried on the next clean up.

As I said I found the Qld one in 98 & asked the owner if he would sell it & he said yes, I was restoring a 1951 80" at the time taking the side plate holden out & fitting a 2 1/4 in it. I sold the unfinished project to finance buying the Royal. When I went back to him, he had decided not to sell it. Ten years on I contacted him again & he said he would sell it this time. I wasn't interested in restoring it myself so rang around trying to find someone to take it on & Keith was interested. It was in very poor condition as the Government had sold it to a Kangaroo shooter (it still had the original rear tub) who sold it to a bore driller. The guy had found it in a transport yard in Mt Isa. About a year before Keith sold the royal, I managed to get a drivers uniform from the son of one of the drivers who donated it to Keith as he thought it should be with the LR.
