Defender Dual Wheel Carrier

Well, it's taken quite a while to get to this stage, but I've finally fitted the first dual carrier to a customer's car, this great looking Puma 90.......

This is what we started with.

Fitted up the new rear bar and carriers, also a telescopic LED light pole.

Job done, ready for the customer to pick it up tomorrow. The only thing not fitted is the number plate which screws on front of the jerry holder.

This is the first production dual carrier that has been powder coated and I'm VERY happy with how it's come up :D. It particularly suits the silver and black colour scheme of this 90 as the light inserts are powder coated in metallic silver.
I'm looking forward to Carl picking up his car, I'm sure he will be happy.

whats the legalities of the wheel hanging over the outside line of the car like that? it looks as though those wheels in particular would hang out past the wheel arch which I thought was the outside line of the car..or is the mirror considered the outside line?

G'day Lou,
The above pics are a bit deceiving. This pic will give you a better idea of the offset of the tyres. This 90 has 235/85/16's and they actually barely stick out from the body.
I've set it up so the standard wheel mounts I supply will allow for 2x 255/85/16's (33")
With 255's they only stick out about 40mm past the body which is well within the flares which are the widest part of the standard car (Mirrors ??). Even 35's will be within the flares, but I need to supply modified wheel mounts for anything wider than a 255.

One other thing I want to add as an optional extra (when I get time) is a small fold down table which will fit inside the tube behind the jerry cans. It wouldn't be very big, but would be handy for a quick lunch stop. It wouldn't extend into the space of the doorway in the open position, so wouldn't restrict access to the car.
I haven't decided what to make the table from yet, but I'm considering something like Alucabond in an anodised aluminium finish, just got to see if it will be rigid enough.

I also want to point out the blanks over the original light holes. These are 3mm aluminium. The top one's where the tail lights were could be drilled and fitted with a power outlet, air fitting from a compressor etc etc.

great idea about the table Murray as for the blanking of the lights I never even picked that up on your pictures. do they have to be blanked due to close fitting? or are they just blanked simply because they are not needed and cant be seen so why have them there?

The bottom ones have to be blanked due to close fitting, the top ones are no longer visible behind the wheels, so not needed. Also, all the lights from the car transfer directly into the new bar which saves the cost of new lights and retains the Land Rover theme.
If someone really wanted to fit different lights I have blank light panels with no holes which could be supplied with a bar to fit whatever you like.

Wow, Murray they look even better in those pics. Love the table idea and the accessory socket to the old lamp positions is a beauty. I am picturing you and your 4 legged associate sitting on a drum with a beer (Well, you with the beer, at least) looking and thinking about these little but ingenious additions after a hard day at the coal face.

Good stuff! Hopefully I can get my side of things back to normal soon, and then I'll have mine! Bwahahahaha:D

Picked up mine today from Murray - who was more than happy to show me round the workshop and the collection of project Defenders that adorn the back garden. I picked up the dual spare wheel variety, and it looks top notch, and a lovely man to deal with to top it off. Will be fitting mine as soon as I find a quiet place to pull off the road.
