Shingleback off road HD plastic sill tank for defender 130

G'day and welcome to Shingleback off road!

I'm a small Aussie business with a passion for the Aussie bush, Land Rovers and well made quality 4wd accessories that are strong, practical and engineered thinking outside the square. I've just finished designing, developing and building what I believe is the only custom fitted heavy duty plastic sill tank for a Defender 130 on the planet, and it rocks, and it's for sale!

The tanks are made in Beechworth from Roto moulded linear low density polyethylene, diesel grade, and are between 7-9mm thick. Being roto moulded the plastic is stress relieved and they are completely seamless meaning they are extremely strong.

    Features include;

    • stronger and lighter than equivalent 2mm steel tank, weighs 17kg
    • Has a much better shape, is tapered up from chassis for max clearance and conforms to the contours better to still have a capacity of 95L with 86 L useable.
    • Never rust or crack mounts, even aluminised steel can rust on the welded seams
    • very low chance of condensation
    • Large 2" filler with three 1/2" breathers for rapid filling even with a quick flow pump
    • can be used for diesel or water (will use a food grade plastic for water)
    • comes fitted with brass inserts from 1/4" BSP to 2" BSP
    • can access both the radius arm and trailing arm nuts
    • is fitted with a drain plug for easy draining
    • 100% Australian designed and made

As there are many different ways people like to rig up their fuel tanks, for now I'm offering just the tank and all the brackets/straps/bolts to fit to your defender, you to supply all other fittings, hoses etc.

    Price for 130 sill tank with brackets/straps/bolts = $790.00

optional VDO sender fitted and pressure tested + $110.00
optional brass elbow with pick up tube fitted + $30.00

Future plans are for both drivers and passenger side sill tanks for 90, 110, and 130. Other water tanks possible also, including under the rear seat in a 130. Will see how it goes, thanks for looking,

    Cheers Andrew, 0400 124456.

very tough, squished in a bit then popped back out, no damage at all.

Straight edge is across the chassis rails, showing how the tank tapers up and away.

good access to both the radius and trailing arms nuts.

Looks great. How far away do you think the 110 tanks are.

I am also really keen for the 110. Be great to support an Aussie design and add to my fuel storage. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the interest, if only it was a 110! As you can appreciate the whole process took some time being the very first of a kind in the world. I knew it would be a good thing but wanted to test the whole concept on my own vehicle first, just happens we have a 130. Now that I'm more than happy with the concept and design, all's I need now is some confidence that I will actually sell some tanks before I make other moulds. We have put a lot of time, energy, money into this first tank, way more than ideal. All the hard works been done in regards to the design and development, I simply just need to make it about 17" shorter, but it is still several thousand dollars just to make the mould. Give me about a month and I could have it made. Just putting it out there, but if I could get enough people (say 20) willing to lay down a deposit I would start production asap, what do you think? Once I had the numbers, about a month you would have your tank?

    Wink

Seeing that you only have a 130 (like me) you need to now focus all your attention on making a left hand sill tank..

    just saying

I will sign up for LH and RH for 110, happy to pay deposit when you get enough numbers.

What sort of timeframe to develop moulds and produce tanks??
