Us civil war, the rebel yell

Now, we have all heard of the civil war, in the USA. Some of us have heard of the rebel yell, of which the Union soldiers said was spine-chilling. Here, many years later, are some old rebel veterans demonstrating the rebel yell. It may seem pathetic now, but back in the day, in their prime.... Bob

Thanks for that. Always wondered what it would have sounded like. Few years back I read the Bernard Cornwall civil war books. Good read actually.

Did they borrow that from the Indians?

I seem to recall my brother and I making similar noises when we refought the cowboys and indian wars in the old goldfields of Amphitheatre. Oh, and WW2.

Paddocks full of old diggers holes made a wonderful battleground.

The jury is out on the origin. Listen to the last video, where they have taken a 90 year old veterans yell, and through modern magic , turned it into a rebel company yell. IF I was a young Union soldier, ****s would be trumps. Bob

Indeed not. But arguably the Confederates had the best Generals early on, and the best Cavalry under Jeb Stuart. They didn't have the industrial infrastructure, to back it all up. And the Union did. Bob
