That must have been a long time ago Bob. For at least the last 35 years it has been League during the Dry season and AFL on Saturday's and Rugby (Union) on Sunday's during the Wet.
A number of fellows go from League to Afl and play all year around.
I played rugby in the NT, Waratahs, from memory. We used to play rugby union on a Saturday, league on a Sunday. The hardest man I ever tried to tackle was an islander, he just put his hip into me, hurt like hell. I didn't let them know it, of course. Just tackled with my left shoulder, from then on.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

1982 was when I first arrived in Darwin. One of the guys I worked with in the post office played League and Rugby but gave up Rugby for the very reason you described.

They were good times, none of us were really fit, from memory we had two teams, reserve grade & A grade. Most people played both on the day. It paid not to get close to the scrum, the rum fumes would knock you out. A lot of fun, though.
