Russian jets simulate attacks on an American destroyer

It's the old " gee whizz" syndrone. Gee whizz, they can't do that. Never mind you are only about 70 km's off their coast.

The Russians claimed that the US ship was "acting aggressively"

Whats the bet that the ship illuminated the planes with its air defence radar, probably 100Km or more away.

The chances of a plane getting that close to a ship these days is pretty remote what with missiles and Gatling close defence guns.

All a good publicity stunt for all concerned and a bit of fun for the pilot

There is a code of conduct for opposing forces in close proximity, this is a long standing thing and has been in effect since Cold War days. Using it ensures no one pulls the trigger early starting that dreaded chain reaction.

Russia is now flagrantly breaching that "agreement" especially by the close fly bys - this is still obviously not considered as so dangerous when deck crews arm themselves with cameras not weapons!!

China is also doing this. It is believed that Russia or China playing these games is a much higher risk as they may accidentally cause someone to shoot, or accidentally shoot someone down or shoot up a vessel etc...

At any time these are billion dollar games people are playing.....

Exactly what the Russians would have wanted. Even more so, the radar frequencies of their missile defence systems. It's all a big game. We did the same back in the cold war days. No big deal.

I don't recall saying that... But I doubt there would be that close a fly by without some sort of warning etc first......

Maybe they aren't always the bad guys?
Bizarre thought I know but what the heck....

I haven't been there for any of them so not vouching for anyone... I just pointed out after a number of posts saying the US would be the aggressor that there are others playing this game....

I did not notice you asking them the same question Eevo.... Maybe a bias there?

but I shall not be playing your little game on this thread, it's not mine and I have some sheets to prepare on fallen soldiers from my town here in time for Anzac Day.
