Steel frame and composite decking.

Composite decking is a fair bit more $$$$, yes i hear you say "o but then you never have to oil it so you're saving there. I agree but it's still not cricket :P
In saying that I just used the same sorta stuff to make window blinds... it's not bad stuff

I guess it's have to, but.....,some how, it's like MDF kitchen cupboards. I'm so glad our house was built back in the 60's, the timber in the roof is as hard as steel, and the floors are from great old Qld hardwood, when we bought it the floors were covered in carpet, ripped it up, a scrub & polish, fantastic. Once our new kitchen is in, we will redo all the floors. It would be a sin not to.

Yep[, the Merbau is cheap. $20 per 5.7m length of 69x15 DAR at Bunnings, so probably half that cost at other timber merchants. Cheaper than pine but the lengths are now manufactured rather than just cut which is important to know.
Watching the way timber is going and the lack of availability in sizes over the last few years, logging of smaller trees and the international crack down on illegal logging I think that we will be in trouble in the not to distant future with timber supply.
Cheers

The problem could be, growing sustainable forests of hardwood, takes a long time to get to profit, for the growers. Doesn't work in our modern quick profit World. And, the movers & shakers in that World don't think of the sustainability of the product, just the profit.
