    The Oberon submarine.

It is said if you want to find out if you are compatible to submarine service, get a rubbish bin, paint it black, and live in it for three weeks.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Round the corner Sally. The Spanish ladies from the Philipines were everyone's favourite.

I may have mentioned elsewhere that my first real draft , Vampire, had a very senior crew, one of which was an ex-RN Kellick stoker, [ his hook was on press studs, he lost it that often]. He had joined the RN at the end of WW2, came to Aus., liked it that much he transferred to the RAN. His experience in the RN helped turn that stokers mess into the best mess on any ship IMO. The Vampires crew was the best I ever served with, and this chap knew every song about the sea going around. Kept every one on the same page, so to speak. These were the days the RN was still in Singapore, and we surprised many RN Daring sailors with our knowledge of what was their songs, going song for song in the bars of the far East. Better than fighting them , I guess. Shanties bring those days back to me, they must have been good days, because I always end up smiling.

A life boat crew at a concert, bully in the alley. Now you know what it means, you can understand it better.

Ahhh, Portsmouth. Great run ashore. Went there in 1977, for the Queens Silver jubilee. Didn't know what to expect, we all were treated like long lost sons. So much so, I think most of us changed our minds about the English. I know I did.

Rolling down to old Maui. My ancestor was a Scotsman, on a Yankee whaler. When I was in the Navy, we anchored off old Maui. We had a game of rugby against the high school, high up on a hill. what a magnificent place for a school.

Whalers, how hard were they. EDIT. Spanish ladies. Oh yes, the Spanish ladies of the Philipines. Memories, to last a lifetime.[ anyone who has sailed these waters will recognise what they sing about]
