John Harms speaking at the George Lovejoy Memorial Lecture, 2012. He speaks about an era of Rugby League I grew up in. From Oakey, which is a short drive from Dalby, where my family was for many years, when I was in the Navy. I remember I used to play reserve grade for Dalby Colts, while on leave. We had a game out at Chinchilla, where my Father and my Brother and I all played together. A rough old game of country footy, we won, and the locals didn't like it. The local Copper wouldn't let us off the bus into the pub after the game, because the blue was on. So we drove through the bottle-oh and past the pub a couple of times singing the team song, until the Copper ordered us out of town. I was glad I would be back at sea for the return match. Those WERE the days.

Yes, Virginia, there is meaning in rugby league
