(chinese made but appear to be ok quality zips etc)
The problem with off the back hard floor campers, is you lose tent space, off the side and off the back soft floor camper give you much more space under canvas because it can be folded under.

thats true, you lose 2' in width, and not sure in length (basically 5'x7'), but you can make the awning bigger with large rooms, but i still like the sleeping arrangement of off the back much much better:)
There is another option for a trailer, it's called a walkin section, like this, we have an inner spring mattress now cutom made for the bed space, walk in climb onto the bed without climbing over anyone;)Quote:

Who gets to sleep with the roof about 300MM above their head?
One big advantage IMHO of our hard floor is that the roof is about 1 metre above your head at the lowest point.
Also the tent and awning are completely sealed inside the camper when closed and very little dust gets on them.
Having camped all our lives until now we LOVE the hard floor. I recall three times that it saved us.
Just North of Morwell in a bush camp we got hit by a gully washer and had water running 100mm deep in the awning , but nothing got wet. Also A BIG goanna was wandering around and sat under the floor for a while. We didn't feel we had to ask him to move on.
Again in the Big 4 Melbourne the next day on a hard stand on a hill and water and mud flowed under. We got the Manager to hose off the hard stand with a fire hose.
We met a couple at Narooma with a soft floor when we arrived the day after the deluge in January. They had lost everything in the soft floor area as water flowed through.
Just another issue is that a Hard floor will generally fit on a caravan and annex footprint with the annex on the concrete and the pegs fit off to one side. If you have a "peg down" soft floor this could be a real problem in wind.
The minus points of a hard floor relate to the far less storage available than a soft floor . Mine has room for 6 nylon boxes under the bed , but far less than a soft floor. And of course room for little ones. we could fit one on an air bed along one side of teh floor but it would be a squeeze.
Horses for courses, but I cannot even convince SWMBO that a T van is better than our 1997 Camp'o'matic mainly because of the low roof issue.

Ours goes off the side, but theres no crawling over anyone unless called for:angel::p
The only down side to off the side is the opening rear tailgate is both kitchen and rear door!, (unless the annex is involved)
no low (300mm) sides here either,,
i had a cub out the back it was way easy , when raining you could get to all your stuff from in the trailer and we used the tail gate as a table and packing up just shove everything into plastic crates and slide them into the trailer and it was only a matter of a few minutes and you packet up and on your way
Redback, a 9' trailer is just way to big for me, 7'x5' max:).
Prety sure i know how i'm going to build it after what i've owned/used in the past. Off the back, hard floor, slide out kitchen to one side, with big awning and a room for the kids, its all up here (points to head):D
