Electric Brakes not locking up

What does the adjuster (behind the magnet) look like? If it is free floating all the force generated by the first shoe will be transferred to the second shoe. If it is fixed in place then only one shoe moves which is silly, you would never wear out the rear shoe.

Yes the shoe ends at the adjuster float but to transfer the force would not the first shoe have to rotate instead of just expanding. I cant see how they can rotate if both top ends are fixed for rotation but not expansion.
I guess thats how they are supposed to work. If the top end is fixed and the first shoe tries to rotate the second shoe is supposed to expand.
Its all too clever for me. I have to get it going by Friday as taking Tristan the Tickford to the Maleny show.
Perhaps everything will bed in then.

Your setup looks good - this is how it is supposed to work!
The bottom of both shoes is floating - only connected together by the adjusting link. The top of both shoes there is a fixed pivot along with the block that will push one or other of the shoes in contact with the drum. When going forward, as the left shoe moves out, it contacts the drum that is turning ccw. The left shoe also turns ccw (slightly) and pushes the bottom of the right shoe out - in contact with the drum.
The opposite happens in reverse.

I need to write quicker (or without interruptions!). The shoes do rotate (slightly) in the drum. They cannot rotate past the fixed pin at the top of the drum - they can rotate away from the pin.

Do you think they are too hard?

Not too hard, but another brand has a full-length lining on the front shoe and a short lining on the rear. Your pics don't show your setup totally but your front shoe has a short lining. A full-length lining will give more aggressive braking than a short lining.

Thanks Graeme. Just got back from a trip to Brissie with the new trailer to pick up a S1. The brakes are working a lot better now than when I left. I think they will be OK now. I will think about bigger linings when I need them renewed.
