The story continues...
Mad about campers gave us a ring a couple weeks ago. They had a second hand top for the trailer that had only been used once, they said it was in great condition and they'd knock $300 off the price if we wanted it. I said yes
We managed to pay off our trailer & pick it up last weekend!! Driving 2.5 hrs there to pick it up built the anticipation!!
The lady met us there on Saturday arvo (must of been out of hours), and pretty much had the trailer ready to go. I had to sort out the rego myself beforehand, so i brought the plate and attached it myself.
Tracy gave a quick demonstration of how the camper folds out and such things, i paid my final instalment and hooked up the trailer ready to go!
Then things came to a halt.
When we tested the lights the driver indicator wasn't working. As Madabout campers hadn't bothered to ring up and ask what plug i'd like (7 pin flat), i was using an adaptor to connect up the trailer, so we checked it and it was fine.
Then we checked the bulbs, they were fine.
The cable near the connection had been nicked, but it seemed fine.
Then my dad (who came with me) hopped under the trailer and started unravelling electrical tape, only to find that the indicator wasn't even connected, which meant they hadn't even tested it. From there it became apparent that the electrical work was a bit dodgy; No grommets, cables not running into lights correctly.
So we kind of sorted it out ourselves (as Greg, Tracy's partner and other proprietor wan't there). We found a connector & tape in his work shop and eventually sorted it out. It still only worked intermittently on the way home which i think is due to the nicked cable.
Other issues included having to supply my own rego sticker holder, and the reflectors are all stuck on (peel & stick), which meant one had fallen off within 24 hours.
I'm not too worried about all these issues, as I can easily fix them myself, but it's a worry when it comes from the manufacturer like this.
The poly block hitch seems good, for some reason they painted the poly block itself aswell
The rest of the trailer is pretty sound so far (canvas is good, trailer welds look quality), keeping in mind that oz trail builds the top, & a separate manufacturers make the trailers. Madabout campers just puts it all together. Because of the price, i'm not going to make a big deal out of these issues, but I'm just getting it out there so people can know.
Tonight we're going to start planning our maiden trip with the trailer. Pretty exciting!!Pity it probably won't be for at least another month...
