If the van has Alko brakes and you want Defender/RRc/Disco 1 PCD, it is just a matter of ordering in a pair of Alko hub/drum units to suit Land Rover PCD. The one problem is that they use 9/16" UNF studs and nuts, not the same as the original 16mm Land Rover studs/nuts.

If you have a DII/D3/D4/P38a/RRS/L322 with the later LR PCD the Land Cruiser bearings are too big for the LR wheel centres.

They are 5/8 – 9/16 is what will be on LC100/200. However if you are going to run disco1/defender steel rims the 5/8 wheel nuts supplied will work. replacment hubs should be about $80 each

Even if you have slimline bearings it is a problem - Which means the alloy wheel needs to be modified and will no longer be legal if fitted to the car (wheel locates on that center hole not nuts), making the entire process pointless.

I looked at changing over the electric brake drums and the wheels on my Jayco Hawk (fitted with 15inch toyota pattern 6 stud alko drums) I found that 16x8 D2/P38 wheels would fit over the bearing section of the drums without being modified, but 16x7 D2 wheels would not - however because of the offset of the D2 wheels I would have had to also put a longer axle on to clear the chassis/springs. The idea was abandoned as not worth the effort/cost.

I was under the impression that the Alko electric brake drums have 9/16" studs. Are you saying the Alko drums have 5/8" studs? I didn't know that, it must be a new standard. Thanks!

So, do I buy these directly from Al-ko or somewhere else in Brisbane?

D2/D3 etc alloy rims don't locate using the hub cap hole when fitted to the vehicle - they use the larger diameter at the back of the mounting face to locate. However if that hole needs enlargement then the rim wont centre on the vehicle.

Im attempting to do a similar thing. We have a Jacyo Dove outback version. (Alko 6 stud)I bought 8 steel 16" wheels and the associated nuts. I was hoping to upgrade the axle to 65mm sq (currently 43mm sq) and upgrade the 10" to 12" brakes.

If its as simle at reordering from Alko??

Id be happy for any advice also. Especially where to get it done. Ive found someone is SA who may do it (Im in Syd)

maybe when you drop into vehicle components they might be able to help.......
