Hi there,
Has anyone purchased a trailer from Manhiem in Darwin and freighted it to Melbourne? How much do they sell for up there?
I see there are quite a few sitting up there at the moment. I have family up there who could be helpful for a procurement project, but am pretty sure freighting down south would be the killer cost.
Is it legal to hitch 2 or 3 (or more) to each other and "wagon train" them down?
Any ideas/comments on this?
Dave

Tow one, piggyback the rest, Regards Frank.
Dave,
I'm not sure but I think the reserve on these trailers is about $300.
You've got to pick your auction as they could get up to $1600.
I was thinking of going through this process a few months back. I had a truck priced up. $2,000 to bring as many as could fit on a semi from Townsville to Melbourne. Unloading had to be organised down here.
How serious are you?
Give me a call and we can have a chat.
Kelvin,
Re-read Daves reply.
It is not legal.
English can be a difficult language.
Pretty sure they are built for that type of multi-trailer use (in military service) but I wasn't sure if it was possible to do in civi service with permit or some special (maybe club type) exemption...Originally Posted by weeds

and the $300 was how much it would cost you after you had acquired one to get it sent from point a to point b on the back of a truck.

There is a fellow near me who has a few Ex-Army trailers. It's very interesting wandering around his place and looking at what he has got. He tells you all about them.
On the No.5's (and these are No.5 trailers except for the Haulmark one tonne cargo), he tells of stories of the people who maintain these trailers towing trains of twenty of these around the workshop yards.
If you intend on driving up to Darwin and picking one or two of these up, I can lend you my hitch and adaptor cable.
If you want to collect a few more, perhaps this would be the go. I think you'd get four on it. Two on the tandem and another two upside down on those.
The other problem is if you get several, where to store them? If you have that sorted, could you pick up the one ton for me please? I could do with another one or two.
You may be better off waiting for a RAAF Track tactical to surface. They go for between $1,200 AND $6,000.
Or perhaps a 750kg Haulmark. a few of those were auctioned off a month or so ago.
