I chose an Oasis because it only weighs 17kgs and I can put it on and off the car on my own. I didn't want to be lugging the tent around permanently. Most of them are up over 50 kgs and take up the whole roof. It is great for quick stopovers but has no shelter to stand under. It has a comfortable hammock style base.

Not sure where you are located.

A few years back , I bought a roof top tent from a guy on ebay who is now Sahara Tents direct.
He is in Oakleigh Vic , but will ship anywhere.
The tent had all stainless fittings and is good quality.
We travelled for 4 weeks through Central Oz with it.
My two teenage girls slept in it while the wife and I were in the camper.
Juri , the seller has his number in the ad and is happy to meet yopu in Oakleigh to take a look at one .
He also does good quality awnings.
I found him to be honest and reputable.
Tell him Pete from Land Rover Club sent you and he may look after you.
We got a better deal but had to buy 4 at once amongst a group of us.
There is also a Rhino Roof RAck , roof top tent and awning off a Patrol on ebay at the mo. At $ 1800 start bid , it seems a bit steep to me but you could email and make an offer I guess

    Pete

We have a Mr Swagman rooftop tent, bigger than Hannibal etc but a great tent, we use ours for weekends and have used it on a 8 month round oz trip, heavy canvas and solid build.
