Ha Ha.
My 1997 Camp'o'matic hard floor has doors and zips on both sides so that the awning can be put on either side. Mine closes with the awning on so i have never used the RH side awning zip , and rarely use the door.
It fits perfectly in van parks as the awning guy ropes fit outside any hard stand area and hard stands are right under the awning.
I noticed a couple of soft floors that threw IMHO the wrong way and wondered why on earth the manufacturer would do it, as you end up face to face with your neighbours in caravans.
We all need a shower and washing every now and then.

My guess would be that Australian designed & built trailers would open to the passenger side, but Chinese built would be to the drivers side.
Why? Australia drives on the left so it makes sense to open on the 'near-side' in Australia, but China drive on the right so theirs open to the 'near-side' in China. I know that they are built for export, but China export to the whole world where they mainly drive on the right.
Austrack to the right. We have not camped where it was a problem (yet). Ours is on a ex-mil workshop trailer which is pretty easy to maneuver around to get it where you want the opening
Cape York Trailer, (CYT) soft floor, opens to passenger side.
Easy to maneuvre too if need be.
Not an issue obviously if keeping away from people by staying out bush:)

I may be misunderstanding something here but what you're saying is that if you've got a passenger side tent then if you pull up on the side of the road & want to get into the trailer for one reason or another, to lift it you'd be standing on the carriageway not the footpath?
i suppose...but i would find somewhere to pull off the side of the road where there is plenty of room......Quote:

Caravan parks are setup for passenger side opening, because all caravans and campervans open up to the passenger side.
Our camper opens to the passenger side, but like Yorkie, we don't go to van parks all that often to worry about it and on the rare occasion we do, we are always in a non powered site anyway, so flat grassy area.

My folks bought an off the back Camerons about 20 years ago, this is my preference, so easy to set up, not climbing over each other in bed (good or a bad thing;)), ease of set up. I've had/have 3 camper trailers, 2 soft floor off the side jobby's, 1 hard floor off the back. Although you have less room with the hard floor, its ease of set up is great. Will definately upgrade to a new hard floor in the future with all the bells and whistles:)
