Trailer / Van Stone Protection & hitch set ups

Good idea Steve, The front ones on our CT provide little protection for the shocks etc, although ours hasn't seen enough real dirt yet to cause any serious peppering. Bloomfield track, the Lake eyre trip and parts of the flinders has been the rockiest it has been on.

I replaced the light-weight full width belting on my bar that's attached under the ball with heavier but narrower flaps after my lifted van's shocks got pepperred on a short but fast gravel road test run. I turned the shocks around and their paint is still intact after a more extensive fast test run, so the HD flaps seem to be doing the job.

Why not use the rubber Ute liner that you can buy from larger Hardware stores? It is a fraction of the weight, only roughly 6-8 mm thick. I originally bought a piece of conveyor belt to put under my caravan to protect the diesel lines to the heater and it was to thick.

Went back and bought the ute liner and it does the job great, done a couple thousand k's on really rough dirt roads and not a serious mark on it.

This build will be using air-springs so I will certainly need to put some protection in front of them.
Ill see what I can rustle up from the traps (have a good source for old used conveyor)
- otherwise will look into a Ute liner.

The local (country store) Mitre10 sold it from a roll, you just measured how much you wanted and they cut it for you. It has cord inlayed in it so it is quite strong robust and is very cheap.
And possibly one more important thing is it it quite flexible and will wrap around things, unlike conveyor belt.

Insertion rubber I believe its called. I use it in various thicknesses.

Has anyone got photos of the Stone Stomper attached to the back of their defender wagon. Keen to see how it takes in the rear step and exhaust and tow hitch ..

I have the height adjustable tow hitch, lowered to accommodate the van hitch ( regulatory 450mm) ball height, on a 2" raised suspension.

Have included photos of the Stone Stomper set up on my Defender and Van. Very happy with the set up and ease of install. A very good product.
Does not interfere with the RIJIDIG rear wheel carrier - another very good Product.

The rear step can still be used and tucks away nearly all the way behind the stone guard canvas flap


Note: had to get the exhaust re-directed, which is a good thing anyway...Attachment 67968
