Question New Caravan Led Lights and Elec. stability control

    Hi all,

We are about to order a new caravan. The 2010 D4 3.0 tdv6 will take on towing duties. Two questions:

    1) I have read about the issues with LED lights on caravans. I know the issues can be overcome... However would it be easier just to order the caravan with normal lights (rather than LED)? That way i don't have to do anything extra to the car.

    2) i want to order the caravan with Alko's Caravan Electronic Stability Control. See AL-KO – Electronic Stability Control (ESC) . The D4 has trailer stability control. I wonder if I actualy need the Alko system on the caravan. Could the system on the car and on the caravan actually cause a problem if they both react to a sway condition?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Peter

    A. Order the LED's it really is not an issue. Either an LED adaptor module or resistors/globes etc in line with the indicator circuitry will fix this issue depending on budget.
The long term reliability of the LED's if far worth it.

    A. Order the ESC on the van also, it is a great system & both work very well (I have been told by a client) & calms the nerves when towing ;-)

    Any suggestions appreciated.

G'day Peter. I had a jayco swan camper trailer and just ordered a caravan. When I spoke to the van people they knew straight away of the issue. They just put resistors on the wires in the van junction box and this sorted the LED issue straight away. I think the resistors were about $15 each.

I've also ordered the ESC on the van and was told that there would be no issues with the Disco and van working against each other. If anything will be even more safer

This topic has been moved as it is no longer being discussed in the D3/4/RRS section and may be of some interest in this section.
    Cheers,
    Terry
