Homestar's new home?

Bit of an update - copied straight from the Classic Caravan forum, so if you've seen it there, there's nothing new here...[biggrin]

So a heap done today - just cleaning and going through every cupboard to see what was in there. Found some gems too. 😊


The video above shows the interior looking quite good, I really could get away with using like it is, it really doesn't need anything doing to it. Below arw a few shots fo the interior.


Club lounge is comfy enough - spent a bit of time kicking back in it having a cuppa or two.

Bedroom with top bunks removed - the beds will stay like this - at least for the time being, depends on what SWMBO thinks, but certainly our first two trips out in it will be just as it is.

Found 2 sets of towing mirrors, a set of load levellers with the hitch plate to suit, and 2 drawbars off something.

Found a set of cards while cleaning up - 1953 Coronation decks - mint condition cards in the box which is slightly worn, but the cards have never been used I don't think.

Then put the back bit on where the AC vents as the old hinges had rusted off.

Then gave the whole van a tub - it looks so much better without the lichen all over it.

Will try and get back to it 1 night a week and start re sealing the windows and J moulds as this is the next biggest job getting it ready to use. As no one has been near it with silastic I should have an easier time than the Franklin. 😊

The eagle eyed might have noticed the front awning thingy was removed, it was hanging by a thread when I went to have a look at it, so I took it home and have been rebuilding it. All new hardware which is still available easily, then sanded and painted the siding. Used a gloss enamel (Killrust gloss white) and sprayed it to see what sort of finish I can get. Much better than a paintbrush, but much more involved too, so not sure if I'll continue or not yet with this.

After painting and reassembly which has made it much more solid and sturdy. I think it still needs another coat, but I'd assembeled it by the time I noticed, it can get a final coat when I do the rest ofnthe van. It will do for now. It's screaming out for some sort of graphic on it - any ideas? Needs to keep within the theme of a 70's van though, so nothing too modern.

Yes, it is in amazing condition for its age, but does need plenty of TLC. It sat unused in the original owners yard for nearly 30 years. Eventually it should looks close to what it did when it left the factory in 1971 but I've got plenty to do. I will be using the van while restoring it, so just need to get it usable for Corowa and Cooma for a start. If you're coming to either of those you'll get to see it in person if you want. 👍😊
