    Does length relate to age?

After thinking on a drawbar extension, I pondered if engineering ideas had changed over the years. Even in the early days there were some monster vans made to travel Oz in. Maybe not at the speeds we do now but the conditions of the roads would even that out.
Anyway, I'm interested in the differences in drawbar lengths Vs overall length of vans during the years.
I know we have some new ones and thanks to some weirdo's in SA we have some classics too.

I'm not sure if what I'm after is the ratio of overall length to drawbar length or even if the overall length is important in this context.

    to kick it off..

1990. OL=6.7m DBL=4.2m (to centre of twin axle)

    some thoughts on different ideas,,

how far are the axles off centre
is the front of the van more or less than half the length of the drawbar

    ideas?

We build heaps of trailers at work, everything from Quad bike trailers to 8m Pans + drawbar. We've always done the drawbar length for 4WDs at somewhere around 1350-1450 from the front of the body, although a few have been outside of that. This gives a suitable distance off the tow vehicle to not cause damage when turning and to also allow for ute tray overhang. We've never referenced it to the overall length.

I wouldve thought length had something to do with ambient temperature more than age....😮🤔

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding that "things" get shorter as age gets longer?

It's called that because it has to be drawn as it can't be seen anymore.

Still teaching Ron, just every year12 kid every year wants to make a trailer of some descript. We seem to churn out so many trailers every year. My Yr12 from last year, one of them even made 2 trailers!

This is a snippet of what my students did last year.

    Cheers
