The laveo dry flush does not need a constant power supply, butdoes require its 12v battery have some charge left to 'flush'. We've used it for several days off grid without issue. As for dust, the design is all enclosed so other than the spinning 'diaper genie like' mechanism, nothing is exposed. We do store it with a bag over it when not in use but there isnt really any need to do so. The design keeps everything neat and tidy so the cover doesn't contact any of the contents secured within the cartidges and the same goes for disposal and replacement; clean, simple and easy. Now, as for camper use offroad, while we've hauled it offroad to/from camp we've not overlanded with it. It is possible with a lot of jarring that it may not hold up, same as we've all seen with anything not usually purpose built for that.
