Is my camper over sprung ?

    Gday All,

Looked at my camper today and noticed it a bit lop sided. Looked underneath and 2 leafs are missing from 1 side.

Just got back from a 7000km trip and did notice it was bouncing around a fair bit on the bumpy highway sections @ 100km/h but certainly didn't expect to see that.

The springs were replaced 18 months ago but we had nothing to go on in regards to the previous spring rating and at the time I didn't had much choice as one spring had suffered damage and the selection wasn`t great where we were at the time.

What`s the best way to gauge springs needed - put the camper of the weigh bridge then go from there ?

    Cheers Ean

Wonder why the spring packs are different...is one side way heavier than the other.

Good starting point would be a weight with full load onboard, even better if you can do each wheel independently.

I’d than use somebody like vehicle components and get the correct spring for each side (that’s if one side of camper is heavier)

When I had a camper I used to run tyres pressures on the lower side....theory was for a softer ride.

To my knowledge the camper is even load each side and I did replace both sides with the same new spring on each side when I had to.

I still have the old original spring lying around , might see if I can find some numbers on it.

I have been using single leaf springs on my various boat trailers for years now and have Never broken one despite the rough treatment and overloading they have all had to endure.
Prior to that I used standard spring packs and had all sorts of trouble with them.
If you are replacing the springs get a set of single leaf ones, Your trailer will Love you for it

Towing trailers with a Disco can be problematic.
You can be having a beutifully smooth ride in the disco only to look in your rear view mirrors to see that the trailer isnt have such a good time of it and is bouncing all over the road.
This happened to me the first time i took my dingy up the useless loop road, I nearly lost the outboard due to the rough road that never caused any discomfort in the disco.
