Our forward fold camper is under 2000kg fully loaded and tows fine on the highway, including using 6th. I don't like seriuouslyt heavy vans.
I have a 2.2 Puma with a BAS 150hp tune & BAS intercooler.
I appreciate the Defender has a towing capacity of 3500 kg, but what is a practical limit to stay under to make it reasonably comfortable for vehicle & driver. Happy for 5th to be my default gear and 90-95 to be my cruise speed.
Looking for some type off hybrid off road camper poptop style. Currently wavering between a TVAN or a Kelly Glenrowen type of caravan. So suggestions welcome.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
apologies to Socrates

Clancy's gone to Queensland Rovering, and we don't know where he are

Andy, my old D1 tdi auto towed our Goldstream reasonably well. On highways, 100 kph was ok unless hitting a reasonable incline, then speed washed off pretty quickly. Having a manual will be a benefit in this case.
Goldie ATM is 1750 kg.
Towing with the D3 is one giant leap forward, I have to say!
Take a look at the pioneer Mitchell hybrid better than the tvan .
We tow a Track Topaz behind our Puma without any dramas.
