interstate purchase and continue to travel ??

    Gday All,

Wondering if and how a caravan can be purchased whilst travelling - meaning not being able to register in my name as i wont reside in that state - and be able to continue on my travels for 6 weeks then register in my home state/territory.

Has anyone managed to do this and how did you do it.

    Thanks and Cheers Bulletman

    I've done it.

Travelled from WA to Qld. Purchased and registered in my name a new camper there. Holidayed in Qld and NT for couple of months on Qld plates. Then returned to WA, surrendered the Qld plates, received a refund on the balance of the Qld rego and took out WA rego.

The trick to registering it in your own name in Qld is having an agreement with the manufacturer allowing you to use their factory address on the rego papers. It's all legal there are nothing dodgy going on. However someone from the factory will need need to accompany you to the rego office to supply their details and sign on their behalf. Talk to your manufacture about it before you turn up to take delivery of it.

Below is the advice I was given by my manufacture.

    Qld Garage Address Statement

    • Complete section 1 – leave ‘Customer reference number (CRN) blank
    • Tick ‘I am a non-Qld resident….”
    • Complete section 6

Qld New Customer Application (Individual) – UNLESS YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY OWNED A QLD DRIVERS LICENCE

    • Bring along at least 3x forms of ID – drivers licence, Medicare card, bank card etc. NOTE - If you have a middle initial on your driver’s licence, please bring a certified copy of your passport too.
    • Complete section 1, 3 and 4
    • You can complete section 2 when we are at the dept of transport. (they will guide you)
