    Caravan 3 way fridge

    Gday All,
Just wondering how people run their fridges when free camping.
You can rule out 240v as I wont be running a penny so do you run battery in day , gas in the night.. or full time gas .. I'm assuming 12v would run down reasonably quick even with a decent battery capacity in the van.

    How do you do it.

Gas. Mine draws a constant 30A on 12V so only used while driving.
If it dies then it will be replaced with a 12V/240V compressor fridge.

All of the 3 way fridges I've seen are EXTREMELY inefficient on 12v power, the only time you could realistically run 12 volt would be when travelling and the car is charging the battery.

Gas at all other times except when 240 is available.

    Cheers

Don't leave the fridge not running for months as the mixture separates and which can be difficult to remix. I keep mine permanently running on 240V on the lowest setting to keep the fluid cycling rather than try to remember to run it every few weeks.

Ok thanks Graeme , will probably be living in the van for next 6 months or so but will remember that when it gets layed up for a while.

Same here. Very economical on gas but once ambient rises above 35c fridge struggles.

2 people envious of others being able to get away perhaps? I've just paid the rego on my van which hasn't been out since the last rego check and no chance to use it for at least the next couple of months.
