    Hi Sprint
The hydraulics were obtained for free!!!
I copied the dimensions from a mates tipper trailer, and increased the dimensions via % to keep the balance point/towing ability correct.
The mate has to use the electric brakes to do what I can do with the manual hoist.
The mates mum was looking at the trailer tonite, showed her the hydraulic lift,SHE WAS REAL IMPRESSED.She pointed out that when they need to tip an uneven load that wont self tip the brakes arent up to it either due to space/manouverability problems.
She wants a ram on hers!!!

    Hey Andy
BTW i have built and used that chain hoist thanks for the pics

Just wondering how you have built the hinges and also locked the draw to the chassis when in trailering not tipping mode... have a mate in cooktown with a small light tipping boat trailer, he was using 15mm HT bolts for the hinge, they have held up alright but the point of stress on his trailer is actually where the chassis meets the draw in front of the hinge. I have re-welded and regussetted just about every point, angle, bend and contact on his trailer, and all up it would maybe weigh 500kg when we go north?????

Just dont want yours to leave you stranded out bush????

    Hi Steve
3 huge 3/4" bolts for the hinges,8" long.
The pins are the safety pins that came off that hydraulic tyre lifter.Pretty heavy duty,it would surprise me if its not strong enough.

fair point... i dont think its the static load rating so much as the inherrant flexibility in the design, in order to slow fatigue cracks on mates trailer we built up a bolt plate which use M12 bolts and essentially fixes the ability to tilt. A little bit of a hassle when you get to camp having to unbolt it all but removed flex and fatigue whilst trailing over corries????? see how things go i guess?? im sure your kindling collecting will find any stress points!

I actually intended putting in bolts, the mates trailer has them.I figured once I pinned it I could pressurize the ram to lock everything solid.
I have 2 spares on the front of the trailerbox so weightwise it will help.
    Its a HUGE learning curve!!!!
Got all the primer on today,4lts Super Etch then 3lts structural primer. Will topcote next weekend

Might not be a good idea to leave a load on the ram all the time due to your using a dual acting ram as a single acting by the look from the photo's but I may be wrong.

    Looks great though

How heavy do you think the chassis would be as Im about to build an off road trailer myself and Im just trying to work it all out.

    Its pretty heavy.
I cant lift the tow end with the spares on.
Will be getting it regoed after easter whilst on hols.
Can tell you the weighbridge weight then.
It is a single acting ram as its set up,1 hose to the pump,open/close the tap on the pump for lower/raise.

    trailer

Gday mate good job I am a hydraulic fitter and would not use the cylinder to hold it down use a couple of studs and some wing nut easy as to hold it together.

The cylinder and pump could have bypass allowing it to vibrate as you drive along better to be safe than sorry.

    Thanks
It does have safety pins to lock it solid.
My thoughts were to pin it then put the hydraulic pressure on to prevent any vibration movement.
