Mate give Steve a call at Spinifex Custom Caravans, he building himself a camper at the moment is planning on adding them to his lineup. I was at the factory last week and the camper is looking great, lots of great ideas and Steve is going to be selling thse things cheaper than the competitors of similar setups.

we drove around Aus for 7 months and did 40 odd thousand k's living in and towing our camper trailer. we have a castaway one which i am very pleased with .

Alot cheaper than the Kimberley camper one. Ours was $9000 for an off road camper trailer brand new with all the extras poss. and from what i have been told , alot lighter and alot more storage than the kimberley. Was told this when camping next to a chap with a brand new all sing and dancing Kimberley camper . Also we have leaf springs (parabolic) and no shocks but that worked really well and did us great(worked on the basis that keep it simple , less to go wrong ) . We beat the crap out of our trailer . We did most of the big tracks , the gibb river road, the Tamini, The savanha way, The great central track , up to the cape , along with many others . All at 110kph where poss. The 90 traveled better at that speed on corrigations . The trailer towed great on these track and preformed well with no trouble the whole trip around aus . In fact most of the time you don't even notice it is even there

We also found the camper trailer option better than others for a few reasons. , more storage space in the trailer which means you can keep the car no so full of stuff, lighter to towing than a caravan , easyer to put up than a tent and has all you need ready to go what with the kithen and water tank. Alot better than a roof tent as you can leave the camp set up at a camp site and go on day trips in the car and come back to your already set up site

we still have this camper and still use it for trips evey now and then .

The only thing i would change on my one is that when i bought mine i had the option of a Galv trailer or Ali one. I wish i had gone for one of these as now my trailer has surface rust from where the stone chips from the all the tracks we did . Noting serious or a problem but makes the trailer look a bit crap. Seemed alot at the time to get the differant trails but now seems cheap as i have to galv mine or at least sand it down and respray it

Here are some pics of ours

And it did get really dirty here is the cark park at the top of the cape

    All interesting points.
Am looking at same, with plans to visit Lake Ayre in Sept. My preferance is for a rear fold soft floor camper. Generally quick to set up with good acces to back of fender(fridge-Beer).Most importantly is set up of beds- ease and Catering - simplicity.Very hard to find a good rear fold. Track Shack make a great trailer ( have borrowed one) as do Mod Con - hard to find good quality second hand unit though. Happy hunting....

We have an offroad Cavalier CT [with our 110 Td5]. Easy and quick setup [15 minutes] and roomy [2adults, 1kid, room to spare]. Has a slide-out S/S kitchen with chinese-ring 2-burner stove and a manual pump tap - ample for a camp kitchen. Tows well, without brakes, and never stops us going places. Has a flymesh enclosed awning - great for when the bugs are out. We mostly use gas lamps but ocasionally use a 12V fluoro [better light]. Our 3-way Chescold fridge-freezer runs on gas when camped [3kg bottle lasts 12-14 days] and runs on 240V when driving [via the inverter off 2nd battery]. The Cavalier has been tough, reliable and trouble-free [I'd buy the same again in hindsight!]. We've beent o plenty of great places with our CT and lok forward to plenty more. cheers,

This is enough of a reason to me to go hard floor,,(if I hadnt already)
Its a great photo Reads,, but imagine that on the first of half a dozen setups!
