There was a test about the drover in one of the last Campertrailer magazines. I've got it somewhere just can't find it right now. I think it's April/May.

Have you looked at this one......it caught my attention in a write up in either a 4by or camper magazine of recent times. I still have the mag somewhere. Got a pretty good review and I believe "new" is under $20k....

Camp-o-matic were in QLD for years and made a galvanised welded chasis and had a very good build quality and reputation. I think they were one of the first with the clam shell design and built trailers in agreement with CUB and Kangaroo and others. They had money troubles a few years back and solt to Trak Shak in Adelaide and have moved business there. The original staff moved too for a while at least. They support all the older campers.
CUB I believe built campers in an agreement with Camp-o-matic for a while then stole the designs. I looked at CUB campers and thought the build quality was a bit cheap. Using wood screws as pivot points, cheap chipboard instead of marine grade ply, really light wire etc etc Try looking at ones a few years old at the wear and tear of the fittings.
I own a 1995 Camp-o-matic and it is really well built. Mine has the AL-KO rubber IRS axle, later thay designed their own coil based system. I would drag mine almost anywhere I can get the defender 130 to go. My only issue is the 1.5t bearing set on the axle. Just cant get the LR hubs for it. I have 3 kids and they love the camper and give it a beating but it stands up very well.

who is confusing the cub with the camp o matic?....
belive it or not I have looked at a good poportion of the hard floor trailers for what we want the cub is the only one that is in our price range second hand...the other really nice ones like the pioneer dont seem to be available second hand.

OK So we have found another trailer that we don't mind the look of doesn't have an internal kitchen which is what we liked the most about the cub but it looks sturdy...well from the pictures anyway.
Its a Pioneer prospector Anyone got one of these can tell me what the build quality is like?

In my opinion it's the corrugations that will kill it, if anything. Through articulation country it's possibly more likely to sustain damage from coming in contact with the ground, but the corrugations are what will totally destroy anything that is not built specifically to take that kind of punishment. On another note, my parent have had acouple of Cubs over the years (unsure of the models but were older and basic models - no kitchens) and they did drag one in to the centre behind an earlir model Pajero without any dramas. They did take it off road on this trip but I don't think very much.Quote:
