I have a turbo timer....no need for it, the time you need to let it idle, just let it idle...BUT the one time you need to shut the engine down in a hurry you cant....I will be getting mine removed
With a 300Tdi and the probe in the EGR pocket, cool down temps are problematic, ie. you could idle the car for ten minutes and it might not drop under 200*C as IMO there isn't enough flow/gas speed/turbulence there to show a true reading at idle. (high speed/load/revs shows the the readout reacting very quickly)
Because of this I use 270* as a shut down figure on my setup.
Seems to work.

thats why turbo timers have a stop or off setting. it will be a dip switch on the back that changes the function of the selector on the front, a push button on the front or a toggle switch.

Wow, really Dave...... I guess in the 10 years ive had mine I never knew what that red button on the front was. Turning the key off is a half a second reflex, fumbling for the stop button after that is not, especially when a lot of other things are going on. But thats not an issue in your perfect world.
given your blatant ignorance on many other posts I thought the blindingly obvious needed to be stated... Did you know that most of them can easily be rejigged so that you can have it setup so that the timer only comes on when you hold the stop button as you turn the key off..
what am I saying, of course you did, you just wanted a chance to insult someone because you couldn't read or comprehend what was written.
tell you what, I'll wait for you to go and get educated in reading and comprehending whats written before you reply, Its covered under the spoken language class mnemonic of "Ensure the brain is in gear before the mouth is engaged" 101, Hopefully by then the chrome wont have flaked off of my new bluepoint ringies and my fingers will still be dexterous enough to type.
of the 5 cars that I've had with turbo timers (3 of which I installed) The turbo timer did nothing unless I held the stop button OR enabled the unit VIA the Push on button on the front prior to turning off the main ignition.

Cheers Dave, Hadnt come across this info before. Will keep playing with it till I get the right balance of temp/mpg/performance...will have to wait til it get a new pump though, when i got home last drive my fuel lift pump thought it would be a good idea to give the RHS of the engine a liberial lubrication. while im at it think ill put new injectors in aswell.
Thanks
Dave you've got an answer for everything, and if you don't you will change the goal posts so you do. If you have to custom the turbo timer and use both hands to operate it, or such, why have it.
How many owners are going to that kind of effort for such little gain. I got one early on because it was a common thing amongst turbo cars 4x4s . Having it for 10 years now it really isnt of any benefit whether engine or time saving. If I feel the need to idle some I just let it, whether sitting there or doing a few things before shutting it off. But I have come into trouble with regards to needed quick shut down on a STANDARD unit.
I kinda figure your the type of guy that can prove anything....but for the rest of us mere moratals sometimes it isn't real word useful.
yes, because using a toothpick to flip a DIP switch in the back of the casing is a major modification that should not be attempted by anyone below the status of Demi-god in the fields of Rocket Surgery and brain science.

The pushing of the little on/Off switch that turns on the unit and brings up the idiot light that indicates on or off should under no circumstances be attempted by anyone with an IQ lower than combined total of the MENSA chess team and the dexterity of Willard Wiggan (yes, I know you don't know who they are so I found you links, just click on them)
you probably also haven't worked out that the easy way to make any of them push to enable is to cut the power from (or to depending on how your individual unit wires in) the timer and install a push to latch switch or a relay with a momentary on button that allows you to set it up as push to latch.
how about so that you dont accidentally have the turbo timer come on and keeping the engine running when your trying to shut the engine down in a hurry?
not that I regard having to push one button at the same time as turning the key off as needing both hands to operate it.

Thanks for proving my point Dave. You talk a very good game.
So let me get this straight...
Posting up a pic of the EXACT unit Im talking about As fitted to my vehicle complete with the FACTORY on off switch is talking a good game..
you should be a lawyer.
Or would you prefer I have someone else come round and take photos of the unit...
