Seems you're well underway on saving her. Saw this thread for the first time just now, was going to mention the cooling system plugs and the bottom hose but that's sorted. Apparently the black header tanks have a habit of splitting and it's customary to replace it with a whitish one as well. When you do the timing belt check if it has the good crank drive pulley and hopefully the bearing for the idler on the timing case cover is good, sort of need a whole timing cover otherwise. Good luck, you'll get her singing again...
Edit, I mean the fan bearing, not idler.

It never ends !! The bearing for the fan is a bit rumbly, but will order a new one... There is an ebay seller in Hobart that lists them.... Very very careful job replacing that one !
I've also been instructed to make it quieter !!

Ok ... As I'm waiting for parts and I have run out of things to fix ...no not really... I have removed the pto cover and bearing housing on the transfer case... Can I pull the mainshaft out to check it or do I have to remove the transfer from the gearbox ?

Chuck a new cross drilled from whom ever in
You will find that a cross drilled will actually engage on about 25mm of those unused splines deep in your picture which by my rough calculations will give you about 6 years of general abuse before you need to think about the main shaft

Your main looks like my '95 did before I stuck a cross drilled in just after purchase.

It is getting skethcy about now

Once that sort term fix is done its day well then like me your looking for an R380 rebuild
