finally its all done......... well ok the EGR naffing off kit should be here next week so the coolant will get done again but

after 3 goes at trying to get the right parts supplied for the hubs and giving up in frustration then going to MR automotive for them... (why i didnt go there first.... )

the first time was me ordering "enough hub nuts to do both axles thanks" and getting 4 of the old school locknuts with the lock tabs which would have been alright IF theyd been the stakenuts but they werent. so that got the fronts done and I reordered for the rear axle and painstakingly explain the way that you need 2 hub nuts to make them work the way that it was intended and I get.... 2 hub nuts... so I did one side.. ring them again and they send me out oh wait for it this is gold...

8 stake nuts........ they got sent back... Im assuming that this is just someone somewhere having a blonde month Im going to give the company the benifit of the doubt + I wont mention their name because Ive had stirling service from them in the past but they aint my goto guys anymore. At least they were prompt and correct with the handling of the billing and refund side of the business.

    Anyhooo.

Pulled the last side down today and was a bit narked to find oil in the grease, good bearings tho so I pulled the stub axle off expecting to find a broken seal... Wasnt I dissapointed, someone forgot to put the seal in.

Proof I guess that oil bearings are better than grease.

The 5 drive flange retaining nuts on this one were weaker than peanut brittle, When i did the first go round on the torque wrench at 30ish FtLb 3 of them distorted and one sheared the head off.

but at long last, after much aggro Big Reds 100,000 km service is done and dusted... (apart from a confirmitory check of the rear bearings again next week)

    Oh free plug...

M R Automotive is now my goto guy for parts in brisbane with four wheel drives in melbourne as my "send me parts to this out back nowheres vill postoffice" choice.

When converting from the later single axle nuts back to the twin nuts with locking tab, you can get away with only buying four of the old (thinner) type axle/hub nuts.
To do this you have to grind the locking tab section off the later type single axle nuts and then use one of the older style nuts and one of the later style nuts with a locking tab between them.
    I hope that makes sense.

it does, IF i was in the field I would have hell if i was in the field (assuming by some miracle that the spacer just happend to have gotten the float setting right) I'd probably go the original stake nut with some locktite.

But thats a get you home fix...

If Im going to do it And ive got the chance to do it right. Im doing it right....

This whole engineered down to a price idea can go and have its testicals skewered to the wall by a rabid monkey with dubious personal hygine as far as Im concerned.

Im going to build it up to a standard, And IF the one in front of me isnt good enough then Im going to raise the standard and meet that instead.
