    Mike, you can replace the viscous unit, the front output shaft and bearing with the case in the vehicle, about 1 hour from start to finish will be plenty.

    Model number .... 13-61-005

    Can you tell me how you describe what it is??? (as you folks keep saying LT230)

    I actually have a RAVE CD (1 & 2) .... but it appears to be for a 1995 RRC ... I think I have bought the wrong one .. Will have to most probably order another

    I pick it up tomorrow, but its a BW Tx for a classic rangie, it will be the same

    A VC BW Tx is NOT an LT230 as fitted to classic RR's from 84 till 88 and discos

    I didn't think it was a LT230 .... Just didn't know how to describe mine (VC BW Tx)

    Will drop the tail shaft Monday night and then go from there

    If you have a boat .... You should go to the back of Garden Island / North end ... Heron Bay ... Lovely reef in a sheltered bay .... Lots to see
    Heaps of vessels park up there for the weekends

    I take it that you want to drive to Lancelin / Wedge again

    VC=Viscous coupling
    BW=Borg Warner
    Tx=Transfer

    The BW Tx case has a VC inside and is chain driven, also its passenger side drop in the P38

    Lt 230 has the manual centre diff lock

    Tail shaft off

    Well ... got home after work and took off the tailshaft
    The tailshaft bolts on the T/C side don't come out so I put spacers & nuts on it to keep them bolts tight

    Well ... went for the drive .... and Yep .... No vibration ...
    Car drove like it should do .... Full power in drive train .... No slip from the Viscos

    I drove it real carefull and applied gradual power .... No vibration / No slip
    I also tried put the foot down hard .... No vibration / No slip

    I can hear "Low level" gear & bearing noise // The kind of noise level that only A daily owner driver would hear ... So not screaming noise .. But it's there

    The "gear & bearing noise" appears to come from the center of the car // right where the T/C case is

    The T/C oil is also "Brackish" in colour .. instead of the red colour of tranny oil
    I had changed this oil 1 year ago

    I also put my hands around the bearing areas of the case to feel for bearing heat .. None to be found
    The brake drum was also stone cold ... so it's not that at least

    SO ..... What would be your thoughts ???? as my idea at this stage is to Rip the T/C case apart on Friday night

    and I am NOT looking forward to having to unbolt or cut the exhaust pipes to get them out the way

    In case Im wrong....

    If its a direct chain drive to the rear output shaft and the VC is simply connecting the front to the back then 30 mm of movement at the circumference of the drum would be a bit excessive but I wouldnt call it fatal.

    If it drives through a diff setup like the 230 then the slop is a bit more than nominal but ID let it go.
    The propshaft does have to be properly aligned also. There is a specific key location in the slip joint.
    If you need references, I have the factory workshop manuals here for it. I can either scan the relevant pages or..... gulp... loan them to you....
