I got mine last week for $350 from these guys:

Gordigear - Roof Top and Trailer Tent Experts
CAR ROOF AWNING - For camping or as a tent replacement - eBay Other Tents, Tarps, Swags, Tents, Tarps, Swags, Camping, Hiking, Sport. (end time 22-Feb-09 10:58:32 AEDST)

They also do roof top tents and trailer campers.

Main reason I got it was they they are local to me on the Coast here and I popped in and had a chat and a look around. They were also one of the best priced.

Hasn't been used yet but looked as good if not better than the Polaris and Gunyah IMO.

BTW: Tell them Anthony sent you and they should knock some dollars off

our's is Gunyah brand we have had it since '05 and it has done the rounds in thunderstorms to sunny days...you can drop a leg in heavy rain for runoff and it has a sail track along the front to slide a tarp in

mine is similar to baz's, umm maybe not quite as long its around the 4m mark i think, mine has been made out of poly tarp material and is a bit of a handfull by yourself. for quick overnight stays i just pegs it to the ground i.e. no poles much like a lean-too, the two poles slide into the end bit and roll up

Kelvin I'm the same, 2 poles and a spreader bar, no ropes and peg the end into the ground, not as many ropes as in that photo, I don't have a photo of mine set up.

I think you'll find it will need ropes and pegs in a not to windy situation. There's a couple getting around town, but I haven't seen one in use.

I would think a lot about getting one that protrudes past the front of the roof. I've noticed a few people in town here do this with their ARB awnings as they adapt them to a half length roof rack. It looks odd but I suspect that it would make bush driving with lots of overhanging scrub rather more challenging

For reference, my Hannibal awning is 2.4 metres along the roof and 2m wide when open.

Thanks for pointing this out, I see they have the option of a gutter mount kit, which means I can avoid a roof rack. So far this is the only solution I have seen that offers this.

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Have you seen this thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/camping-tu...d-awnings.html

What I was going to do on my County was to pop rivet a length of sail-track directly to the roof above the alpine window. My Fiamma awning just slides into the sail-track and would have just hung over the window. I use a modified version of this on my Rangie - the sail-track is not pop riveted to the roof but to the back of a length of Unistrut bolted to the side of my roof rack.

    Here's how I've done it:

And if you want to go cheap and have a set of roof bars, the following post shows what I set up a couple of years ago.

    El Cheapo Vehicle Awning

    Cheers
