hi there brett
thanks for that reply, is there any chance you could direct me to that post? ihave heard this commercial model, was it the 8 speed on offer?
thanks in advance....
Bill
Bill,
Maybe the uk forum is the best place for this question, as they have had the commercial model with the lower output for a few years. It's only been here a few weeks.
Gordon from GOE has mentioned some differences on another post.
Software would play a part, but it will be more to it then that.

thanks Brett, I've been looking for where I had read it but could not remember - your info reminded me.
Bill this info, as scant as it is, comes from a very knowledgeable forum member:

There are at least differences in the firmware in the ECU's, so a simple remap won't give identical outputs. I've been told the actual ECU chip is different, but I haven't confirmed that. The differences in physical mechanical components I'm also not sure about.

Gordon

Thanks Gordon and Sean for the redirect of forums
control modules? does that mean the chips that limit engine output in the name off engine safety ???? or are you referring to an extension of the ecu related to accessories ???? as for firmware of ecu a chip , a chip would bypass that because it comes after the computer.... so a this point I still have my doubts!!! truth be told i'm still unsure....
ill keep searching, the consensus on reviews is that its a detuned engine... having limited inside knowledge ill refrain from passing verdict.... ill have to wait and see....
BTW : LOVE THIS FORUM, thanks to all my new fellow members for assisting me in getting more confused!!!! ha ha only kidding
cheers

Hi Bill,
The higher output 3.0Lt is a gem.
Its the first 4WD I have owned that I havent chipped or upgraded the power in any way (except for a slight exhaust mod to help keep EGT down).
Unfortunately, I had to sell the D4 recently and have already done a power upgrade on its replacement.....even though they have the same size diesel engine.
The low down torque that you get from the high output 3.0Lt is awesome.
Cheers, Craig
The fuel injectors are definitely different - different part numbers. The lower-powered engine's injectors have different flow characteristics.
Land Rover describe the ECU and "several other control modules" as being calibrated differently and that it is "... not possible to to re*configure a lower power output engine to the higher output specification".
Of course, an aftermarket remap will go some way to making up the difference!
Cheers,
Gordon

						now your talking Gordon
different injectors, sure i believe that, just wandering where your getting you info from... you see the reason i ask is that i want to chip the d4 so it can hopefully have similar grunt to the more powerful option.... it might therefore require a different tune specifically for that model... the more precise info i have the better equipped i will be to get it chipped correctly
any chance you can give me the part numbers/or at least where i can look up this info? if you can it will be greatly appreciated....is there a part catalogue i might be able to look up?
cheers Gordon
So far everything you've said is wanting to Chip the engine but keep talking of "downstream" add on boxes.
These boxes are Not the way to get an engine running right!
The remap experts - and I mean this - cannot get the same grunt.
The "commercial" engine (lower spec one) is limited in its upgrade capability.
If it was able to be mapped to full output then the LR specialist tuners would be doing it for certain!

hi Tombie, thanks for taking the time to comment
I'm after definitive proof... eg whats different? is it the ECU? Is it the injectors? you probably are correct in what you say, while here in OZ we don't call it a commercial engine it's probably the same as the one in the UK....
a company in England called chip express claim that they can get identical torque figures just less kilowatts from the commercial engine, i suppose im trying to identify exactly what spec i have and therefore can get it chipped accordingly, my understanding is that the chip comes after the original ECU(I'm probably wrong)
Even though you might be miffed at my limited understanding every bit of info helps me, so i apologise to all including yourself Tombie and appreciate the feedback....
For the record for me to get the up spec model with my minimum requirements would have been over 93k , I would have but i wanted to stay married.....
Anyway by identifying the spec here in Australia I can source the chip that suits to at least return the torque to its potential, anyone else who has info please post it
cheers everyone
