Performance chips> Are they worth the money???

    Have to ask the question.
I see alot of after market performance chips on the markets at the moment to suit D3 TDV6.
Are they what they are cracked up to be?
I know the the D2 TD5 engine does show good results.
Has anyone purchased the mod, and how successful was the overall performance in comparison?
    Cheers Dave

We were behind a D3 yesterday & he was giving it a bit. We were in my wifes VZ commondore & while I wasn't nailing her car, it was pulling away. I have a TD5 & I thought if I had that power, I would be happy We always want more power, I have driven an R50 Touareg with 850nm of torque & that is AWESOME!! Even the standard V10 with 750nm is great. I think it all depends on what we want out of our car if its worth it. I would rather spend the $$ on accessories, but people that have the spare $$ would think its worth it. Dunno if that was any help lol.

    Agree Dave,
In my case l tow a large boat which is nearly at the maximum towing capacity for the car.
Thought that maybe the extra power/performance used for the right reasons, would be beneficial in this case.
    Cheers Dave

I have the BAS Remap and love it!
Gone is the low down lag that the throttle had, yes a bit more smoke but more power and slightly better fuel economy.
It flies off at traffic lights and pulls even better up hills.
The BAS Remap is available via the Disco3 forum with a discount for members. Pete sends you a plug in box to upload your "Tuned" file. But first you upload your existing file and email it to him. He asks what do you want to do with your D3 - Lag gone, better for towing, better fuel economy cruising etc. He then emails you back the tuned file which you upload to the box and then replace your existing file on you ECU. You can swap at any time between the files if you want to drop your D3 into a LR dealer or service.

The brand I fitted in about 5 minutes removed the lag that is standard (as if the throttle has an elastic band) when getting across an intersection and overtaking is much safer, no need to build up momentum, just nail it and it takes off resulting in much less time on the opposite side of the road.
I also have the opportunity to download a performance map with my MV2 Extreme but being in warranty it is easier to remove the performance chip which I have sometimes forgotten to remove until near the dealers for a service, quick lift of the bonnet and it's gone. If I had the map on the car I would need to go back home for the laptop.
There will be others who have no desire for extra performance so will discredit them or anything else that gives that extra kick in the seat from standard.
If you can afford one, it will genuinely help tow that boat.

I have a Steinbaurer, and I love the results. Fuel economy has improved a lot by a extra 100kms a tank!! Down side is the extra smoke when you boot it.

I was at a caravan and camping last week, and there a a stall selling 'chip it'. What I like about their product was its tuned over the dyno and has a EGT monitor.

Next 2 weeks he's going to dyno the steinbaurer and then custom tune his product.

Give it a go I say!

You are better getting a re-map BAS or Bluefin or similar.

Custom tune is always the best...always. However I believe they have only just started custom tuning the D4's.

I'm getting mine custom tune on the 7th with ChipIt, so I will keep you updated on the difference.

Look forward to hearing the results, Dorko - do you have a 2.7 or 3.0? I've got a D4 2.7 and I'm keen to improve the fuel economy if nothing else.
Is there any online info about ChipIt?
    Cheers

Are you getting rid of the Steinbaurer setup, or tuning on top of/underneath it? Not that I've any idea how that would work...
