Probably your TPS, check its plug for oil, its the one hanging off the throttle shaft towards the front of the manifold air inlet. Could need cleaning or replacing.
OK, so Betty has been running well for a while, but now....
Over the last 2 months all she has had to do is short 10 - 15min runs to the shops or hospital.
The last few times when on the return journey and driving in stop start traffic the engine has not responded to the throttle.
Most noticeable is when costing with no throttle and then just touching the throttle lightly to keep up with the flow of traffic the revs do not climb and betty slows down. If I increase the throttle at this time the revs do not climb.
Then everything changes the engine picks up and responds to the throttle position - which can be a little scary as I'm still in the line of traffic. Off the throttle with the traffic flow, touch the throttle lightly revs drop and start all over again
Any ideas - could this have anything to do with the hot weather and repeated short runs?

Have you got the bonnet open? Find the big black hose from the air cleaner to the engine. Where it attatches to the engine is where your throttle lives. On the rear side is the throttle cable. On the front side is the TPS in full view. If in doubt, find a local expert, I'm too far away. The TPS is usually reliable but its worth getting it checked before spending a lot of money.
Good description I got it.
Pulled the plug apart and cleaned the terminals with contact cleaner. Could not get to the back of the contacts as they are sealed (mine is a flat plug not a round one) so I could not do a back probe voltage check.
Tried to work out what the terminals were and got an Ohm reading that changed when I moved the throttle but it was all to cramped and the reading changed to fast for me to make any sense out of it.
Put it back together again, crossed my fingers and drove the Mrs to hospital and all seems OK. Hopefully it was just dirty contacts![]()
Contact cleaner is excellent stuff. If you still have problems you can push a sharp dressmaker's pin into the red wire (harness side) and connect your volt meter here. Move the throttle up very slowly..
A dob of silicone on the wire will seal it afterwards.
Just found the voltages you should have: 0.085 to 0.545V throttle closed, 4.2-4.9V fully open. TPS is not adjustable.
Its all on here: http://jimsrover.afraid.org/rover/GT...ionSystems.pdf
