    Non starter

Hi all, recently i had a few problems with a miss on my v8 d1, after alot of faffing around with parts i pulled the fuel pump assembly out and cleaned it with brakecleen, this seemed to fix it for 2 weeks or more.

Now today i have drove home from work with no problems, parked up on the drive, 3 hours later i have gone to drive it and its a non starter.

Now i have a spark at the leads but it makes no attempt the start, it initially seemed to smell of fuel for a brief second.

Now if i press the pressure valve on the fuel rail when the ignition is on should i get a good burst of fuel out the valve?
I only seem to get a brief flow for a split second, it does not seem to have any pressure, i reckon the fuel pump has **** itself.

    Thoughts anyone

Fixed it today, Fuel pump not working. no pressure in fuel rail. It was a relay.
The relay I replaced was a Metal covered one, not plastic like the rest

Right after all the messing around i think i may have found the problem,
i decided to change fuel pump relay and pump for what it was worth and it went great, only for the problem to happen next morning again, so i just left it till today.

I checked rail pressure and found i had nothing, i removed fuel lines to blow them back to tank, put fuel line in a bottle and turned on ignition, fuel came out for about 2 seconds, it had tiny black specks in it too, connected up and still would not start, now im not a efi guru by any means, but i followed vacuum line from unit at end of fuel rail and it came to a black switch, what is this? I removed and found the plunger in it was sticking, car started 1st turn after, has this switch something to with fuel regulation.

Is yours a 3.5? The vacuum switch you found might be the one used to cut the ignition signal to the ECU on high vacuum. Its supposed to kill the injectors on closed throttle decel. If you bridge the terminals it should work fine, just use a teeny bit more fuel.
