I understand they can be rebuilt, and maybe work, but is there an alternative to the genuine part?
is it true the D1 and D2 barrels are the same?

STC1746, switch ignition, used in D1 and late RRC (according to LR's Viking Express).
The ignition lock for the D2 seems not to be listed separately, it appears to come with the steering lock. Special order from UK, VIN required.

I have had to check this previously. I'm sure from memory that Southern landy quoted me for a D1 barrel as they were the same and easier to get. Price still made me almost slit my throat at $700 odd.
Got mine reconditioned at Beechboro 4x4 for a couple of hundred.
Lynn rover had a second hand, for a boput the same as the reconditioned, but would not allow a return.
cheers
Nick
If it's and old ****ter like mine.
Take out the lock altogether and put the switch on the other side.
Ahh forget it .. It bastardise's the car and a lot of work.
well,,
my local locksmith keeps a replacement in stock!
must be a few D2's in Toowoomba,,,,
$500 bucks though,,,
can get mine refurbed for around 200,
can get new D1 barrel plus keys at 190, yes they fit aparently--(just use d2 keys for doors)
can get second hand d2 barrel for around 200,,

Pedro, Just get it refurbed,
THis is now a common thing we deal with also, happens for 2 reasons, a heap of keys hanging off the key ring & just wear & tear.
Get the Key No. from your books..hehe
or the dealer & remove old barrel & send it to the locksmith with the key code & original key, he can then replace the worn wafers with newies to suit the lock code & key & then you have no extra keys to peave you off.
Cheers.
Thanks Pete
and yes,, I DO HAVE the bar codes around here somewhere,,,,

Hey guys,
I'm having an issue - only had the car for a day! - and the key just jams and won't turn at all.
I was told to give it a tap on the end of the key and that has been getting me out of trouble thankfully!
I put some graphite powder in there too, so maybe that will help?
Two questions for you guys-
If you change the batteries in the remotes do you need to re-set or enter the codes etc? Or is it just replace them and use as per normal?
If you change the barrel I'm assuming that you will need new keys as well? Or do they just modify them to suit?
Sounds like the best option is to rebuild?
regards
Darian
