    Darian,

    "Two questions for you guys-

If you change the batteries in the remotes do you need to re-set or enter the codes etc? Or is it just replace them and use as per normal?

**Just replace & use as per normal. You may have to lock unlock the vehicle to re-sync the keys.

If you change the barrel I'm assuming that you will need new keys as well? Or do they just modify them to suit?"

**The locksmith should be able to recode the barrel (albeit new/used) to the existing keys you have. It is also easier for the locksmith if you have the 4 digit ignition key code. Supply the locksmith with the barrel, original key & code & he should be able to get it running for you.

    Cheers.

spooky...24 hrs after reading this thread my iginition barrel jammed. Got it going with a few taps but am leaving the key in atm & locking the d2 with the spare key. Not good security wise but it is keeping me mobile. The local locksmith tells me they can do some kind of refurb but its iffy & only a temporary fix & there's no warranty. Something to do with a worn casting being the actual cause resulting in wafer problems. Does this sound like what other members refurbs were? Cost is around $100 to $200.

o.k. update. Checked a few more locksmiths (Gold Coast) and got directed to Terrys locksmith at Burleigh Heads. $123 later all fixed and working fine. They seem to know their stuff and are familiar with ignition barrel issues unique to D2s and seem confident their work will last. They say they rarely have to do it again, -- time will tell. So, bit of handy info for Gold Coast D2 owners to file away for when your key stops working.

is it true the D1 and D2 barrels are the same?
Might this not be a candidate for "The Good Oil"?

So I can find it when my irritating - I mean ignition - barrel finally carks it...which is only an unknown number of turns away!

yeah, got mine fixed via the dealership we bought it from that claimed it only magically started happening every x5 turns once WE got it......YEAH RIGHT!

Dont panic guys, as read below, all you need to do is put the key in, give it a few sharp flicks on its end with you fingernail, and 9 times out of 10 you'll be on your way (doesnt need brute force). If it doesnt work after a few flicks, take the key out, put it back in and a couple of flicks and your outta there.

    regards
    Darian
